Louise running???

Body:

Hi Wholewomen

Had an interesting experience the other day. I had to wear a thing called a Haltar Monitor for 24 hours to measure what my heart was doing. Long story, not going to tell it. I had a pretty sedentary afternoon and evening and decided the following morning that I had better give this heart of mine a bit of exercise so the monitor could measure how my heart responded, before I went back to the hospital to have it removed so they could collect the data off it.

I went for a 15 minute wog (walk/jog), jogging as long as I could, then brisk walking until I felt I could do some more jogging, and so on. I think I ended up jogging a bit more than half the distance, which rather surprised me (positively, as running is not my chosen form of exercise - boring).

But the big surprise was that I did not even feel my pelvic organs wobbling around and trying to descend, and I experienced no leaking bladder at all. It may have been because it was early morning, but I had been out to the woodheap and gathered wood for the fire beforehand.

Hey, this Wholewoman thing really works. I'm not about to take up netball again, but I probably would have the continence to take up umpiring again. I never imagined it would be possible.

Cheers

Oh Louise, I am still so new at all of this and sometimes I just wonder if it is all worth it. I want more than anything to be able to go for a short run and be more active...

You have given me inspiration.

Happy Chicken.

Oh happy days, Louise! To run and not wobble; to not fall down! -Wonderful!! If you were sporting an emotion-monitor along with the one for your heart, I bet your readings would be off the chart!

At this point in my journey, one of my dreams is to just be able to fearlessly break into a jog across the crosswalks when traffic wants to share the same space. ~ ; )

Thank you for your generous serving of hope, kiddo. It helps keep our dreams alive.

that's wonderful louise!
I love hearing wholewomen doing things they thought they couldn't do, and without wobbling and falling!

and I hope all's well with your heart. will be thinking of you.

I was just feeling pretty puffed out and sweaty. I was just very glad to be able to get home and get changed! I was pretty chuffed though, that it really wasn't a big deal.

Cardiologist appointment tomorrow. I don't think anything is wrong. I don't get any symptoms. I have a thorough doctor for once, who is investigating a heart murmur I have known about for years, which was identified as benign many years ago. Now I am getting close to menopause, I become more of a heart attack/stroke risk, so I think they are all in ass-covering mode. It will be interesting to see what they find.

Good luck tomorrow Louise! Best to be sure. When i was at the gynocologist office the other day my blood pressure was through the roof, 174/96. I've always had very low blood pressure..well at least I did before menopause. I thought it was just up because I was seeing the doctor, but it's been up for a couple of days now. Not quite that high, around 138/88 but that's high for me. I am going to watch it for a while, then I guess it's off to see the doctor. Seems it's always "patch, patch, patch" around here these days! But, as long as I can keep patching, I will!

Hi Gals

Well the cardiologist visit went just fine. It turns out that everything is absolutely normal, and I have just forked out about $400 in fuel, medical gaps fees and a blood pressure monitor to prove it! Well, at least my ticker is OK. I guess if my ticker wasn't OK I would be grateful to know that I had been well-diagnosed.

The other thing I did while I was there was to call in to the hospital's Continence Clinic to tell them about Wholewoman. I was quite well received. They learned a bit. I learned a bit. The really neat thing I learned was a little trick you can use to stop the bladder from contracting, eg when you are busting after a long journey and get out of the car and discover that your bladder wants to go 'now'. There is a little pressure point in the cupid's bow under your nose, up high. Press on it, and concentrate on it, and you can stop that little burning sensation that says your bladder is about to empty. I guess it is a little like blowing your nose to avoid sneezing. I did it as soon as I got out of the car when I got home just a few minutes ago with a very full bladder, and can happily sit here and type this without panicking and wetting myself.

So there you are, you learn something every day.

Hi Louise!

I almost called you this morning until I realized you would've been sound asleep (and probably a bit irritated - lol) Our firewall died night before last and we've been without server or Web access! This is the first chance I've had to steal away to an Internet cafe. The new firewall arrived today and will (hopefully) be operational by tonight.

So glad all is well with your heart...since menopause I'm paying a lot more attention to mine. I have a sense that it's very strong - but also that its strength depends upon my lifestyle - particularly what I put into my body. The valves are everything. We can come back from atherosclerosis with very careful and diligent attention to diet and exercise, but a ruined valve is pretty catastrophic.

Loved hearing of your experience with running. It's so true that if you're holding your body properly you can run and jump and leap with No detriment to organ support. I just love the feeling of running - feeling all my joints strong and in alignment. I have not increased the distance I can run ( not very far) but I love being 56 and able to run at all. When you come to the Center I will show you how you can have fun jumping with the same positive effect. When the pelvis doesn't move from its proper alignment, the organs don't move either.

Cheers,

Christine
