massage

Body:

Hi all,
I just wanted to know...does anyone get massages? Someone who is training offering to do sessions, and just want to be sure it's okay for my POPs...

thanks!
Kiki

I do and love it!!

do you think the masseur needs to do anything diff't?

I highly recommend massage as one of the best adjuncts to this work. That said, my prolapse is worse afterward! That's not surprising though, given the deep relaxation cultivated through massage. It's not a problem though! Prolapse is improved ONLY while we are upright - either sitting or standing. And it is not a situation where the supports relax and therefore worsen symptoms for the long run. These are very dynamic bodies. A rubber band stretches - returns - stretches - until it stretches out. Our living bodies do not behave that way, but have a huge range of dynamic motion well into old age.

I've never really had a professional massage unless you count my fellow students when I was in PT school as professionals (I wouldn't!)
but I've taught dh a thing or two, and a good massage is relaxing, but it has the opposite effect on my prolapse than on christine's. I find once my hip/thigh muscles are relaxed (they tend to be tight) I can better stand in the posture. same for my neck and shoulders. pain anywhere leads me to stand hunched over, massage gets rid of my pain.
I think that the risk of overtight muscles is worse than the risk of relaxed muscles(so long as they arent weak).
and christine's right, our muscles, so long as there isn't anything else going on, don't stretch out permanently.

massage feels good! I recommend.

thanks!
i will wait with interest to see how my body reacts, and good to know that if i do feel worse, it's relaxation not permanent...

thanks!
