How far up?

Body:

How far up is the cervix/uterus supposed to be when inserting a finger into the vagina?

Hi Candice,

The before pregnancy cervix is barely reachable, as you will recall from your youth :-) and tampons and all that. There have been large studies done on women coming in to doctor

I am actually doing really well. My son will be a whole year on 8/29 already!! As for the prolapse, on a daily basis it is hardly noticeable. Everything does tighten and firm quite a bit after pregnancy. My prolapse is still present, but oh well... It doesn't really bother me much except mentally sometimes. I try not to worry if it might get worse or not, I think sometimes you can make it worse by just thinking about it too much!!!!

Sex is fine so far too, since baby Luke is still in our bed we don't exactly have much time to do it (and since his crib that he naps in is in our room we have to go downstairs and do it on the floor :7 ) We haven't tried any other ways except for traditional, again, no time!!

Sometimes I have a slight sensation in my lower left side, but nothing really too bad. And, I am always lifting my two little ones. (30+ lbs. and 17+ lbs.)

This doesn't have to do with the cervix, but when I first discovered prolapse in 02 after baby 2 (remember baby 1 was a c/s) my doctor showed me an illustration in one of his medical books of the difference in the look of the outter vaginal area after birth. The top part of the vagina on the outside had a slight "bulge" as opposed to the vagina that had never birthed. I have to say that that illustration was helpful, since I was obsessed with looking at it so much after it happened (always hoping I'd return to the pre-birth look). It helped me realize that after birth change is natural to that part of the body. Kind of like my little pouch of wrinkly, overstretched skin on my belly-- my badge of motherhood? My three chidren and the joy they give is certainly worth the change. When they are teens and cause me gray hair and wrinkles on my face, I may feel differntly LOL! Anyway, just wanted to share.

Jane -It's funny you mention feeling better about the look of things after seeing a picture of a before and after birth vagina as I've often thought that if I could only get my hands (or eyes!) on pre/post birth vaginas I'd feel better! I've even thought about buying a Play Boy mag LOL (maybe that wouldn't be the best source?). Any ideas where those pictures could be found (besides through a doctor)? I'm trying (from your advise on an earlier post) to not obsess over the looks of my vagina as I used to look at it way too often.

Heather, I know what you mean about wanting to see what typical vagina's look like.
do a Google image search, be sure to turn off the parental controls or you will get only line sketches. And be prepared to scroll through lots of trash. I found one site that claims to want to help women appreciate their anatomy. they collect photos that women send in of themselves. Aside from feeling really odd at looking at this stuff, it was helpful, and I dare say, I saw a prolapse or two. I'd stay away from playboy, as I'm sure lots of their models have had all sorts of cosmetic surgeries.
