dehydration

Body:

I've been feeling ghastly for a few days and have finally decided I must be dehydrated. As consciously drinking more water makes me feel a lot better, I guess I'm right. I suppose it's been creeping up on me because of the flushes and the constant peeing through the night. Been waking up headachey and sick. Also made me think this wouldn't be doing much to help the vaginal drynes either.

I know we are constantly being exhorted to drink more water but I was one of those people who thought yeah, yeah, no big deal. But it is a very big deal! The odd little whisky of an evening wasn't helping either as alcohol dehydrates.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Hi Sally

If you get up for a pee at night, have a similar-sized drink of water every time you have a pee. I know it is a temptation not to drink too much in the evening if it makes you get up during the night, but I am not sure that volume has anything to do with it. You might as well get up for a big, diluted pee as a small, concentrated pee.

I have a feeling that the kidneys to a lot of blood processing during the night and we need to be well-hydrated before bedtime to allow them to do their job. Otherwise, why do we produce such enormous volumes of urine overnight, without eating or drinking? If the kidneys cannot get the water they need from the bloodstream they will just steal water from the other tissues, like the liquid-filled balloon our brain rests in. Ouch!

Sally,
Do you feel by drinking more water your prolapse was in a better position or did you just feel better overall? Thanks, Connie

Hi Connie

Hadn't thought about the water in the belly affecting the organs. Not sure about that. Just lost my headache, wasn't tired, could concentrate, etc. Just been reading Christine's book when she talks about animals not doing the huge water guzzling thing but getting most of what they need from their diet. My diet not rich enough (yet)in fruits and veggies but I'm on my way.

The peeing through the night thing is the next one I was going to address Louise. I am an hourly night time pee'r at the moment. A real pest, sometimes sleep won't come back to me. Usually this happens when I've eaten something aggrivate my bladder but NOT drinking through the night, even though I am thirsy, usually helps. To pee or not pee, that is the question!

Sally

Hi Tiny

Interesting thinking about animals and how they keep themselves hydrated. Trouble is that we are not animals, grazing and browsing on green stuff. We are humans who eat a very varied diet, much of it being pretty dry or water absorbing stuff. Have you ever been through a day when you have eaten very little for one reason or another? I have found that the less I eat, the less I need to drink. Or the corollary, the more you eat, the more you need to drink. I think that probably means that if we eat a big evening meal with lots of starch and salt, and wine or beer! :-( we probably need to drink quite a bit during the night to give our intestinal system enough water to enable our bodies to digest it all.

Mmm, the night time peeing thing is not simple, is it? That would drive me nuts. If it helps cut down your getting up by not drinking before bedtime it would be hard to see another way to get enough sleep.

BTW, Let's not get caught up in the argument about whether humans are animals or not. You know what I am talking about.

Sorry I cannot be more help. I'm glad you have found that dehydration may be a factor, though.

Cheers

drink as soon as you wake up-16 oz if you can all at once. you should wake up thirsty.
drink this same amount 2 hours before sleeping.
no caffeine or other bladder irritants

during the day follow your thirst cues- try drinking when you think you are hungry- sometimes you can get mixed signals.

eat a snack of chia seeds before bed- they keep water in your body longer.

fully empty your bladder on all fours before getting into bed for the night.
waking every hour all night long is not good for your body. try to adjust your sleeping positions and see if that helps you sleep a little longer.

Hi Folks

Please to report no drink no pee last night. Well one pee which is acceptable. Certainly don't feel as tired today. Even got back to the swimming.
