Anatomical question

Body:

OK, at the risk of sounding totally ignorant, I have been needing something clarified. When we feel and look at our cystoceles and rectoceles (with fingers, mirrors), are we feeling the actual organs (ie, bladder), or are we just feeling the bulges in the vaginal wall caused by the organs? I mean, there is a wall there, right? But if it's bulges in the wall that we're feeling, why are they described as looking and feeling (to the touch) different from each other? I'm thinking specifically of the photo's and descriptions in the self-diagnosis section of the book.

I wondered the same thing too at one point.
you are not feeling the actual bladder or bowel. (you could feel your cervix and uterus though). you are feeling the vaginal wall bulging out where those organs are pushing against it.
I dont know why the look/feel different, maybe due to the difference in their shape or location so they push against the vaginal wall differently. but that's just my guess.

and please dont worry about sounding ignorant. first of all, you dont. secondly, if you are asking a question, its likely that quite a few more women have been wondering the same thing. so on behalf of our lurkers, thank you!

Thanks for the reply. Those bulges certainly take on a life of their own sometimes.
