Going in for a second opinion on 11/16 for prolapses.

Hi all,
I am a 35 yr. old mother of four kids, who I homeschool. I've had a uterine prolapse since the birth of my second child (who is now 9 yrs. old).

My prolapse just kept getting worse and worse, until I recently (in the last two months) went to see an OB/GYN. He examined me and said that I had a grade 3 uterine prolapse and ALSO a grade 2 bladder prolapse (which I had NO idea about).

I can hardly stand for more than a few minutes at a time without prolapsing, especially later in the day. It makes it REALLY difficult to keep up with four kids, homeschool, clean house, etc.

I was really happy to find this site and read about the position that is recommended. I've been using it and have noticed a slight difference over the last few days.

Anyway, I have an appt. with a urologist on Friday to get a second opinion. I'm hoping to avoid surgery for as long as possible for obvious reasons, but also, I have a toddler who is still nursing and requires a lot of keeping up with and help. I'm thinking I might try a pessary and also the v2 supporter. I'm also considering the hab-it: pelvic floor DVD, if anyone has experience with any of these, I LOVE to hear from you!

So, I thought I'd share my story and see if I could get any advice from other women who have btdt. I also have PMDD, which really adds to the craziness that can be my life.

Hi mama and welcome. It sounds like you have your hands full. I hope you can spend some time poking around on Whole Woman because there is such a wealth of info.

Christine’s approach is not what you will find elsewhere. As you will discover, traditional medicine has only so much to offer – PT/kegels, pessaries, surgery, or doing nothing.

With your type of prolapse, a pessary can help IF you have a patient doctor who is willing to try different sizes and shapes until you get the best fit. Try to get one that you can take out and clean yourself daily; some docs think you should go back to them every few months for this. But your tissues need to breathe, and constant wearing of a pessary is not going to reverse anything; at best it will give you support when you need it the most.

If kegels helped prolapse, then prolapse would be found only in the history books! At this point in time, several generations of women have been kegeling and kegeling, so if it helped I think we would know by now! Christine has some excellent articles on this subject in her Blog. Kegels actually work the wrong muscles in the wrong way, and can aggravate prolapse over time. Personally, I feel sorry for these kegelers (having been one of them for many years!).

Surgery, I won’t even talk about. The failure/repeat rates are just too high….

I would recommend Christine Kent’s book, Saving the Whole Woman, and one or more of her DVD’s. The book has been my bible over the last 2-1/2 years that I have been doing this work, I can’t imagine my life today, if I had not found this place before going down any other roads with this.

Whole Woman posture is very simply, the same posture you see in little girls who have not yet been taught to suck in their tummies and tuck their butts under. Restoring lumbar curvature and giving your organs a place to rest in the hollow of the relaxed lower belly….that is how this works. It is not a quick fix. The idea is you retrain your body in this beautiful and graceful way to stand, sit and move, and over time, with help from exercise and other tools, you can manage this and do pretty much whatever you want to do in your life.

Please look at the FAQ’s – scroll down to see the pictures and diagrams. Go to the Resources tab and find the video page, then watch the first video for an overview of this. Get the book if you can. Get a video if you can. Learn firebreathing, which is a tool for sucking those organs forward.

There is a lot of advice out there for prolapsed women. I hope for your sake you give this a serious look. There is quite a bit of science behind this method, but conventional western medicine is too highly invested in ignoring the truths found here. - Surviving

Hello, I am pretty new here but have had my prolapse for many months, going to be completley honest, when people said about the whole woman posture i just could not believe it, I researched and researched other things, I have the hab it dvd, which i did a few times as I have friends who are doctors and just advised its a saggy muscle a bit like your stomach with more skin etc. I have the hab it dvd but i did know myself that my pelvic floor strenght is pretty good and i found that it made the tampon feeling that i have worse, then i went to physio and they checked my pelvic floor strenght and the exercises again seemed to make me worse. I therefore have been doing the posture at all times, when i can and hope its right. I do the exercises off Christines DVD but not that many, taking everything slow. I have found an improvement in no tampon feeling but have many questions to ask these lovely people still :) you will probably do your own searching but just wanted to share with you my thoughts. I bought the hab it DVD shortly before finding WW. Hmm.. from what I remember, the exercises were mostly performing kegels in various positions. The instructor teaches neutral spine and stresses core strength which, when applied, worsen pelvic organ positions. WW teaches the the real female pelvic anatomy.. This is why you start seeing improvement just a few days into maintaining correct female posture. Good luck, you have a lot going on! I think getting into hands and knees position and fire breathing would do you a world of good when you're on your feet for so long and getting achy.

So glad you found this site and have access to loads of info and support. Do key in key words such as 'pessary for pop'/'uterine prolapse' etc in the search button. You'll find loads of previous posts on these and pretty much any other subject to do with prolapse. Also as the others say above, so look around the resources; video clips, blogs, utubes etc.

Re pessaries; these appear to suit some women (accroding to the 'saving the ww' book, mainly those with cystocele) but also do not suit many women. There is a danger of enlarging the vaginal passage and in the longer term making things worse. There are further details about this in the book.

I also have a uterine prolapse. Last year it was a real issue and initially I was terribly upset about it. However with the WW work I now live a healthy happy normal life. I do have to manage my prolapse. If I'm not aware and don't live in the posture and follow the dvd based exercises regularly, then I obviously have a tendency towards prolapse and I begin to prolapse. However as I am careful with my diet (I rarely get constipated) and I do live in WW posture most of the time and regularly do a 20' practice - I'm not prolapsed and feel well.

If you have a uterine prolapse, it is quite possible to gently push your cervix up with your (clean) finger. Then I would recommend doing a posture to promote the correct position of the pelvic organs (ie above the pubic bones below and behind the lower bely in front), such as a standing forward bend or on all fours in cat posture, and then in any case go into WW posture and be mindful to stay in WW posture.

If you find yourself prolapsing at any time, I find doing some key WW postures, such as fire breathing/forward bends/cat posture or 'Christine's alternative to kegels' posture, really helps to reduce and improve my symptoms. Try experiemnting with different postures and find out what works for you.

The book and the dvd's are a wonderful investment for life in your health.
