Desperate for Pessary info!

Body:

Hi, I just got the WW DVD's and they are excellent. However, I desperately need prolapse relief until I get into the exercise routine. Christine talks about pessaries you can remove and insert yourself. I see you can buy online but there are so many varieties. Is this something I can do myself or does a doctor have to fit you? I would love to do this myself if possible. What is recommended to buy? Thanks so much for any feedback!

Hi leelee and welcome to WW. Pessaries can be extremely tricky to fit, do not provide symptom relief in all situations, and can aggravate prolapse. I don’t see a pessary as a quickie solution. If you decide to pursue getting one, I’d go to a very patient doctor who is willing to work with you. I was not aware these could be had on-line without a prescription…..this may depend on what county you’re in. And be sure you are shown how to remove and clean it yourself. It shouldn’t just be left in there, as many docs will suggest.

Whole Woman is not just an exercise program. It is a permanent correction in your posture that will help you stabilize and reverse the symptoms over time. Job One is for you to figure out what this posture is. You’ve taken the first step, now it’s posture time. You need to be in posture to do the workouts so obviously you must start with it. Once you know what it is, you are working on it as you go throughout your day. It takes time! Ask your questions here, we’re always around to help. - Surviving

Don't know if this will help, but for me, with a bulging prolapse nearly all the time, I do my WW workout immediately upon getting up in the morning...when my bulges are nice and tucked up and in. I step out of bed, throw on my workout clothes, take a quick pee, and get right into the warm ups. I can usually get thru most if not all of the workout before things fully descend. And I've noticed that with each day, the stability lasts longer. Perhaps this could work for you.

I have a fear of beginning because I am afraid I will do it wrong and end up worse instead of better. I have the book and the dvd but I wish I had an actual class or instructor so I would know I'm doing it correctly. Any suggestions?

CarolAnn - Welcome to the forum. The combination of the book and the First Aid for Prolapse DVD give quite good explanations of WW posture and movement. There is also a ton of help and information on this forum and throughout the site. Relaxing the belly is the hardest part in the beginning, if like so many of us, you have been taught to pull everything in tight.

If you would like to get in touch with a pratitioner, there are several in the US, Canada, UK and Australia. Check the WW Practitioners tab up above. If you cannot travel to visit one, they can consult over the phone or Skype.

But have a little confidence in the meantime....give it a go and ask your questions here. - Surviving

Thank you so much Surviving 60! I will visit this site more often and use it to help. Thank you for your encouragement and God bless you!

YOU can have the practitioner take your photo while in a pose so you can use it as a reminder for yourself if you have a tendency to forget when you get home.
