Squatting-anatomy question

Body:

Hi,
I was reading some old posts, and came across one where Christine talks about squatting on the balls of feet, lumbar curve in place, stretching out the back line etc. This is the only way I can (sort of) squat with my arms above my head. I only go to about thighs parallel to the ground, this feels pretty good no pressure anywhere, tailbone not tucking etc. I can keep my balance no problem. Is this a good exercise?
Everything you read about squatting, and at school, gym everyone focuses on heels down, drive up through heels, etc otherwise you will ruin your knees and feet (stress fracture). This is often referred to as cheat squatting. So I guess my question is why is squatting up on the balls of your feet so shunned? Is there a benefit to squatting this way for exercise? Or is there something better to do of a similiar nature.

Dear sea turtle,
The Whole Woman way of squatting up on the toes is the only way to keep lumbar curvature in place which is protective of our internal organs from intra - abdominal pressure displacing them.

The feet have even weight distribution at the base of the big and little toe, and the middle of the heel.

Our knees are always placed over the second and third toe to protect them during exercise whether the hips are turned out or not.

Developing the foot arch, is the basis of this work and I believe that Christine's conference this year is going to emphasize this.

Not everyone is able to squat low, so my suggestion would be to start from developing your feet and WWP does strengthen the thigh muscles - it has taken me time, though surprisingly only a few months of doing the DVDs to develop strength enough to balance in these poses and in the DVDs often have modified exercises.
The empowering benefits for me of practicing squatting is ever increasing great balance, & being able to develop the strength to rise up from this unassisted. I practice this lately, and will continue to do it as part of everyday living.
I need to go and do my exercises now...
Have a good WW day!
Best wishes,
