Newbie not sure where to start, some limitations on exercise

Body:

HI everyone,
I have a rectocele and do not want to have surgery. I have just discovered this site and like what I see so far. I have watched the youtube videos and I have a problem. I am 62 years old, and I am not sure that I could do the exercises as I cannot get down onto the floor and I cannot get onto my knees (I had a total knee replacement four months ago). However, I do exercise at the moment (going to the hospital exercise physiology dept. to continue my rehab) and I walk.
I do not think I would fit into the category of the 'older not mobile' section, so, my question is - are there exercises for someone like me and if so which Book/dvd etc should I buy?
Thanks in advance and sorry if this topic has been covered before!

Hello rowee and welcome,
The most important aspect of whole woman is getting your body back into its natural posture. In this posture your organs will be pulling forward into your lower belly and away from the vaginal outlet. Walking is actually one of the best ways to do this. And, it is a very good way to really work on all those posture principles.
There have been other women that have come on with limitations such as yours, and I believe that doing some of the exercises in a chair for some of the floor exercises was suggested. As for the standing exercises, just do what you can with your knee. If it hurts, stop and try again at a later date.
So it's really up to you what you think you you want to try. Just remember to work on trying to hold the posture as much as you can, but do give yourself breaks as you need them, and don't overdo anything, and I think you should be fine. And, always breath deeply into your lower belly, as Aussie Soul Sister always says!

Hi rowee - I agree with Aging Gracefully that you need to give WW a try, and modify any of the exercises as needed. This is really all about the posture! Although there is a dvd for "elders" (meaning, women of any age with very limited mobility), you don't sound that compromised and I know you will benefit from the regular program even if you can't do everything. Many of us can't do it all. But virtually anyone can learn the posture.

Dear rowee,
Many of the exercises can be done sitting and standing.
Start with the posture and belly breathing 24/7 - walking in WWP is excellent also.

I am a huge fan of the Hips DVD as it has a great section of exercises in a chair. These exercises strengthen the upper body, enabling the posture to be held better. Christine says that a strong shoulder girdle is important for holding up the rest of the body.

There are also standing foot exercises, with holding onto a ballet bar or now I use my sturdy high backed heavy wooden chair for that and hip exercises done standing on a box. It does have floor exercises also.
For your particular situation, Christine is available for phone consultations and could give you further help in regard to your knees.

Welome to the Whole Woman journey,
Aussie Soul Sister

its wonderful that you have found us all! WW exercises will help for certain and you will find your own way doing them, your body will tell you what you can and can't do, even though you have limitations, I'm sure. It takes time, but all the advice you have been given will help you to find your way. I have recotocele and have avoided surgery, it's been a journey for sure. I have had much success but struggled at the very start, the reason being I wanted results instantly and there are no magic wands involved, it takes practice to stay in posture, it takes dedication to help ourselves but it is worth every minute to be able to say we helped ourselves, to be in charge of our own bodies destiny. I can honestly say most days I forget I have recotocele, it hinders me rarely , as long as I keep posture, I must eat a healthy diet, I must do my exercises, because if I have learned one thing it is that I am worthy of the care I must take of my body and not leave it up to doctors, you will do well, you have made the first steps to helping yourself, just by coming here,,,

Thank you all so much, it is so lovely to be welcomed in this way and also just to be able to talk about this with people who understand!
I shall go back and peruse the products available....look forward to more conversations with you all
