Posture question

Body:

In the video, Christine says that the pelvic organs sit on top of the pubic bone, and not in a bowl/basket. When I bend over, I can see that my rectocele disappears. It becomes a closed area, as she says in the video it should. I really have to bend at a 90 degree angle to get this area to "close". Is that the angle I am hoping to achieve with the lumbar curve? I have almost zero lumbar curve. I've had bad posture my whole life, and was super sore a few weeks into practicing good posture. Even when I think I'm getting an extreme curve in my back, my husband says I look "normal"...as in good posture. Just want to make sure I understand exactly where I should be aiming with the posture.

Hi militarymom,
The lumbar curve comes on its own, and the older we are, the longer this can take for us, but it does happen. I remember into my second year my husband actually pointing out the curve in my lower back and saying how sexy it looked!
It does feel so stiff at first, because we are trying to coax our bodies back into a shape they were always meant to be in, but given time and dedication to this work, it does happen.

Thank you. I know this will take some time. I have only been holding posture for a couple months now...and I'm past the soreness. It was really hard for me at first. I was showing my husband the stomach in vs the curved back with relaxed belly and I was surprised he found the latter more appealing. I have ALWAYS held my stomach in tight to look thinner. It created a host of problems including anxiety from a constant clenching. Very glad I found this site and all the helpful information.

That's funny, I did those things too. I was so impatient at first, thinking that maybe I was too old to get that lumbar curve, but then I just got down to the work and let nature take its course, and the lumbar curvature did come along. It is nice having someone else notice it though!

Hi militarymom,
I had the worst "c" shaped posture too with chronic sucking and tucking.
A few weeks ago I was reading a book and it told one to stand against a wall and there was to be no gap between the back and the wall.
The effort to get into my previous shape was so unnatural and difficult, I realize how far I have come in 5 years of doing WW.
My shape and so much more has changed, and I will never look back.
Our natural posture is so much more tension free and relaxing and energy preserving! You will find that when standing in the posture, your torso at the front has natural tension, doing its job without any effort from you, other than standing in the posture.
When I first started the posture, I had a function which involved a lot of standing and conversing. I did not get any back fatigue, discomfort or pain that evening!

Wishing you all the best,
Much love,
Aussie Soul Sister

My prolapse is dramatically improved in the two months I have been faithfully practicing the posture.
Yesterday, without thinking I lifted a thirty pound box and carried it into my house. Now tonight for the first time in a while I noticed a slight bulge, but only on the right side.... is there such a thing as one side prolapse, maybe one side weaker than the other?

Hi gram, nice to hear of your progress. I really don't know the answer to your question; maybe only Christine understands the anatomy well enough to give a definitive answer. For some reason I've always felt like my prolapse tended more towards one side, but I can't say why, and I was never big on self-examining. Just count on posture and firebreathing and extra care to get yourself back on track. We all have those moments but they are just part of the journey! - Surviving
