wondering about physical therapy...

Thanks for the reply...
I am very interested in physical therapy and wondered how you went about finding someone in your area who specializes in this type of therapy? I feel that it's very important to be sure that the therapist is not only familiar with prolapse but perhaps has had some special training because it seems to me that you could do more damage than good if not.

On the subject of riding horses, I saw that someone else had posted that she rode bareback, which I think would be very hard on prolapse as you do have to sort of tuck under to maintain balance without a saddle. However in an english saddle, like I use, you really should maintain the posture of a slight lower curve, and flat broad shoulders, as that is what's proper in an english posture. Plus, you don't bounce in an english saddle because you post. So I am fairly sure that riding hasn't hurt me thus far, and am trying to just take it slow and easy. Riding is my mental therapy and I can't stand the thought of giving it up all together.

All this work, the posture etc...seems so logical to me, and therefore, I trust it will be helpful. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and trying to stay focused on helping myself to improve my body.

I am ordering the book and can't wait for it to get here. Thanks for this place to come and not feel so alone, it's important.
Mere

Hi Mere,

in my case the consultant recommended someone. and i agree--you want someone who is very aware of all this. The first person I went to see is a women's health physio, but advocated tons of kegels--and i started going numb.

My new physio whom the consultant recommended is of the belief that I work towards 20 really good ones a day (which a few people here have mentioned), and on strengthening the rest of my body.
But the thing I would say is that because she specialises in this, she is wonderful to talk to and so helpful. i called her in a panic as i felt like things were getting worse, and she was so reassuring and when i saw her really able to assess me and then help reassure me when i saw her after.
and i can ask her anything at all and she is great!

if there isn't a doctor you like to ask, maybe a midwife could help you find someone?

good luck!
