LICHEN SCLEROSIS - WHAT HELPS?

Body:

A 50+ male friend has just been diagnosed with lichen sclerosis. Could anyone with experience of this problem make any helpful suggestions? So far, prescribed topical steroids have not helped. As (bad) luck would have it, he is about to leave for a romantic foreign holiday with his girl friend, but sex appears to be off the menu. Comments?

Hi Alix

I don't have anything splecifically for LS, but I do have another skin condition that seems untreatable, and other body inflammation.

See if you can find these two posts by Christine.

Also, have a look at www.rawfoodsexplained.com.

As a result of these posts and this website, I, the enthusiastic eater of dead animal flesh have recently decided to cut down on meat, dairy, canola oil and increase my legumes and pulses and grains other than wheat. This is partly to cut down on omega 6's and partly to change my P, K, Ca & Mg ratios in my diet. I am experiencing less inflammation as a result, no doubt about it. The chapparal tea looks interesting as my next move.

I am awaiting Christine's new DVD with bated breath.

Now I am having less meat I can *really* enjoy the smaller amount I have. It has become like chocolate to me. I don't want to cut out meat, particularly red meat, because I am convinced that it really does have some benefits nutritionally, but by cutting down on it I am making my diet much more varied, and that has to be good.

I hope your friend is able to improve his health, and that his weekend away is enjoyable. As you get older, life is too short for letting things like LS get in the way of good relationships.

Cheers

Louise

HI Alix,
I've been dealing with LS for a while now, and tried lots of things.
Following Christine's anti inflammatory diet thoughts has made a huge difference--much less omega 6, more 3's, no inflammatory caffeine or sugar. i await some chapparel, in the mean time trying turmeric tablets.
one man i know of found using manuka honey topically was working really really well.

i find neem oil very good, but it stinks like crazy till it dries and even then, needs washing off for a romantic weekend ;-) emu oil is found by a lot of people to help if he feels okay about the emu hting, but isn't at all a solution. but oils are good for the skin.

i have at times used the medium strong steroids, but am not a big fan. i actually found that 1% hydrocortisone works just as well, ie not brilliant but helps to tone it down if it's really bad or if the skin is scarring particularly fast, and i feel like it has to be less awful than the stronger stuff (though still nasty stuff i know!). but i still try not to use it....

EFT is good for the anxiety of it, itching, and perhaps even helps it...who know

i too await christine's new DVD with great excitement...but in the mean time, hope that helps some.
