it's me susan ..aka fannierose...
last i posted i had the diverticulitis and
a uti..which is the very lst one i have ever
had in my just about 65 years....
the divers and the uti were diagnosed
6/14 of this year....on 10 days 500 mg each
cipro and flagy...evil evil evil......
they were culturing my urine and never did
lmk what the culture showed just treated with the
divers meds....
since that time i have had intermittent intense burning in
my pubic area...not burning when i pee...
feels like when a muscle is injured..that type of burn..
which was relieved a bit if i had a bm or passed some gas...
pcp contributed it to my starting to eat a bit more
and it aggravating my ibs.....
really haven't felt myself since..and was really also
starting to think i had become a hypochondriac...
funny feeling frequency the beginning of the week so
i bought an otc uti test strip thing and it came out positive
for leukocytes and negative for nitrites....called pcp..
he prescribed cipro for 3 days...i questioned in my mind whether
i in fact had a uti because of the negative nitrites but
just took the cipro...
today still not feeling well....pcp's day off...so i got an
appt with my urologist's office....
before i went...i called the hospital to see if they could
please tell me what the culture said so i could tell
the uro and hopefully be treated with the proper antibiotic if need be..
i stopped on the way to uro appt and got the paperwork..
scanned it a bit and saw that it said the organism for the uti
was streptococcus veridians group...had no clue what that
meant but i do know that everyone i spoke with said it is
most probably e coli because of loretta and the close proximity
of the * parts*...
gave him the run down...including the info that it was
strep v...he just shrugged..
..ultrasounded my bladder to see how well it
was emptying and all okay in that area...checked my urine
and said no infection although it could be that i just took
my last cipro this morning...said there was a little blood in
my urine but it was probably from the recent infection...
offered some oab meds that i refused ...explained that
the leukocytes meant inflammation and that the nitrites
meant bacteria...insinuating that it was inflammation
from the divers attack....which left me unsettled for some reason...
at this point i didn't know what to think ..who to listen to..
said we will find out in time if the cipro worked...
i looked over my lab results from the er again when i came home
and noticed that while my wbc's were noted as *screaming level*..
the nitrites at the time were negative...investigated more online..
saw that strep v groups is the strep that can start in the mouth/dental
work....genitals.....and can ..if it gets into the bloodstream...cause
heart infection.....!!!
i have some recent dental problems that need addressing ...could it
be that i wonder? i also have loretta...that?? i also had a root canal
about 30 years ago that was the root canal from hell from the beginning..
trouble galore after it....started with constant sinus infections on that side
right afterwards that have continued to date....questioned dentist about it..
he denied any problem until about 12 years later when he said...
* well we know we broke an instrument in there in 19--...so if we couldn't get it
then ..we sure won't be able to get it now in 19../twelve years later!!
had surgery by another dentist to remove it but there were 2 pieces in the
canals and he could only remove one as the other was on the palate side
and he said surgery there would affect my speech...
so is this the culprit???
pharmacist said the cipro i have is NOT strong enough for this
germ...tomorrow i am going to get in touch with my pcp to prescribe
something more broad spectrum/stronger med as suggested
by the pharmacist...
i am beside myself that no one paid attention to any of this..but then again
i don't know if it is a big deal or not...however i do know that i do NOT
feel right...
long story to finally ask ..what if anything do any of you know of
this germ?
thanks so very very much from me and *loretta* :-)

Oh Susan!!
What a story. You poor woman! You seem to know more about what is going on than you slack medical professionals. They are probably scared to death of you. ("Oh no! Here she comes again and she has Loretta and her Beretta with her this time!")
I am sorry but I don't have any experience with the Strep group, but I do want to wish you all the best. I am sure that when Loretta chills out a bit more you will see your next step more clearly. Sometimes, one thing piles on top of another and before we know it we are dealing with world war 3.
I wonder if you can slow it down a bit, and just tackle one thing at a time? Baby steps. And be gentle with yourself.

Thank you as always louise for looking
in on me and for your concern....
I think i am headed in the right baby step
direction by trying to get the right antibiotic
to anniliate this nasty germ
Just pretty leery of the whole bunch of
medical *professionals* i am involved with..
will keep you posted and look forward to any
input anyone else may have..
