Constant urge to urinate!

Body:

I am currently 10 weeks postpartum. I gave birth vaginally after 29 hours of labor, failed epidural and doc had me push at 8cm dilated. The first 2 weeks postpartum I was constantly urinating, often times I began to "go" before reaching the toilet. I chalked this up to numbness, healing of my 2nd degree tear etc. Since then however the feeling has remained. I have a constant urge to pee even just moments after going, I do NOT however lose control of my bladder or leak except during a good sneeze. I can hold it in for awhile it's just a constant sensation which is so very awful. I have seen my gyn and a urogynocologist and both have noted that I have no prolapse but "sagging, weak" vaginal walls. My urge they say will go away with kegels and overactive bladder meds....well, not so far. I have begun physical therapy with a women's health pt, upon her exam she noted that my urethra has moved but a kegel brings it back into normal place. I'm not even sure what all that means! I should note I have no pain, no pressure just a constant urge which feels like a sensation coming from my urethra not from bladder. I have stopped breastfeeding, which was so very difficult emotionally to begin taking meds and I am using estrace cream as well. I need guidance! I am at my wits end. This feeling is running my life and ruining my time with my beautiful baby girl because I'm too busy focusing on this feeling. Please help and thank you in advance!

Hi Missjovie and welcome. For starters, let me give you some reading:

First, a great forum thread about post-partum peeing urges, meds, etc:

Here, a couple of Christine's blog articles that I hope will have you ditching kegels:

Hope you can get yourself off the bladder medications and Estrace - these are decidedly NOT what your body needs, now or ever. Glad you have found us here....Christine is the voice of reason in an insane world. - Surviving

Hello just wanted to say welcome and share my thoughts, I came to the site about 7-8 months after my baby boy, I am from the UK and was also told I didn't have a prolapse and just laxing of the vaginal walls which apparently you should expect! No one told me. It's hard to explain how you feel and alternative options like WW are hard to embrace as hormones everywhere and you feel low. When I first had my baby I didn't have prolapse I was told to kegal like mad to heal my stitches, it didn't feel right though I was told I was doing it correctly and before long the pressure started and I knew I had a prolapse though it took a long time for the doctors/specialists to admit it, it's as if they don't want to increase the number of woman who have it because they have no understanding of dealing with it. All I would say is if you can feed your baby again then I would, don't miss out on your wonderful experience with your baby, I fed till 16 months and I am pregnant with my 2nd baby now and I am having more urges to wee all the time, every time I stand up but this was all under control previously. I must say I did wake in the night to go before being pregnant and since my issues but I was dealing with this. I can't tell you medically but I would avoid drugs and the standard system. I made the step but it took awhile and I signed off physical therapy or even discussing it further with the NHS and was a lot happier. Please please avoid Kegals and read the site. But firstly enjoy your baby and try to relax. This will get better and it's not an emergency so breathe and relax. Take care
