Discomfort when breathing in posture

Body:

Hi ladies,

I'm new to this forum.I'm 33.I have a nearly one year old baby boy.I discovered my prolapse 8 weeks after delivery. My boy's birth weight was 4.3 kg,we had a long, assisted birth with forceps.
I went to the doctors a couple of time for help before I found Whole Woman. I feel I can get real help here with guidance. I can't afford the First Aid for prolapse DVD and Saving the whole woman bundle yet but yesterday I bought the online video which explains the posture and toiletimg.
I always had a really bad posture and I already have that ugly lump at the top of my spine. Thanks to Christine's work I know now why.

I started practicing the Whole Woman posture.I find it very difficult (-as many other forum members say) to relax my lower belly but when I do and I think I get the posture right breathing becomes uncomfortable.I can't really explain. It's similar to feeling sick and only able to take small breaths.I hope it make sense as English is not my first language. My question is if anybody experienced similar symptoms? And should it get better, easier with practice?

Also as I've only just started I understand that one needs to spend as much time in the posture as possible. But how do one start to adapt the posture in everyday life?I mean I practice it in front of the mirror over and over and I try to remember to pull into posture throughout the day.I just don't know how much to do as a start. How often and for how long?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi dear youngandhopefull & welcome!
I found it difficult to adapt to the posture, though you have youth on your side.

It is like learning anything new, it is mindful practice.

I have used the analogy here of learning how to drive and how all the skills eventually go together and some become automatic.

We need to constantly adjust the steering wheel while driving to keep the car going in the correct direction and that is the same for the posture, there is a need for adjusting and mindfulness.

Runners and tennis players all position themselves for each race or to serve or hit back a ball, and at least some of that would be mindful, even after hours of practice!

If you strongly pull up your chest, the abdominal wall will pull up and over time I have found that doing the posture as a fundamental to every day life, my abdominal wall has a natural firmness while standing, without any other effort on my part.

If you eventually add Christine's exercises, particularly her breathing ones, and walk tall & do everything in the posture, you will find the muscles and fascia will lengthen and belly and torso breathing will become much easier.
I think we can panic a little when we change breathing styles - I know I did when learning to breath through my nose at night and during the day as I had to stop mouth breathing.

When you are tired or resting it is ok to lie down. Just during the day the posture is the basis for everything you do.
At first I used a rolled up towel or cushion or garment behind me when sitting on a chair or couch as my torso was weak from slouching for so long. I am strong enough now to sit without any support.

I am older than you but over the time I have been doing WW the curve at the base of my neck is straighter than it has been before, preventing further bending!

I wish you all the best with your little boy - one thing I do suggest is when he starts to walk and sit, run and stand, watch how he holds himself with his straight flat upper back and neck and tucked chin even when looking down. That is just some of the posture that we all lose with modern furniture and lifestyle.

Aussie Soul Sister

Thank you so much for your kind reply and encouraging words dear Aussie Soul Sister. I am trying to continuously remind myself to pull up into posture. It's reassuring to hear that with time it becomes easier and feels more natural.I will try Your suggestion on supporting my back when sitting as I'm used to slouching too.

I'm looking forward to find out about firebreathing and jiggling once I can get more of Christines's material. I will report about my progress.

I wish you all the best too and I will watch my little boy closer when he starts walking. He's standing on his own longer and longer so I''m sure he will take his first steps soon.
Take care
