Support for big tummy!

Body:

I am 49 and have some kind of prolapse, not sure which as I've not been to the doctors. I am adopting the posture and doing my best to help myself but my question is this. I've never worn knickers- always hated them but I have a heavy lower tummy and when wearing knickers on my period (only time I wear thembecause no choice then :)) I've noticed my lower back doesn't hurt so much and that the pressure sensation I get are much improved. Could it be that my heavy stomach is pulling my organs out of place?
Thanks :)

Hi there - I am guessing you are from "down under" where underpants are referred to as knickers! I can recall an amusing thread on this topic several years ago.

A big tummy really isn't an issue if you are in correct posture; the extra weight can actually help pull the organs forward and help the vagina stay closed off. Be sure you are keeping your chest strongly lifted, which pulls the belly up (not in!!), creating a sleeker line. We don't just let our bellies flop loosely.

That being said, everyone's body is a little different and I don't know what type of knickers you wear. You don't want to apply pressure across the tummy, that will definitely push the organs backwards (the opposite of where we want them to go). But if some support below the belly feels good, then by all means go ahead. This can actually help if you are experiencing back discomfort. Just keep it lower in front and higher in back. - Surviving

Ha, hi again. No, I'm from south of England near the New Forest :) OK that's a great help, thank you. It definitely seems that firm support knickers stop virtually the whole sensation of 'something there' and help the low back ache a lot. My belly is really big (not the top part but from my waist down) and it weighs a ton (I say I'm it's host :)) so I guess the knickers just ease the strain on my back mainly.
Doing pretty well with the posture and managing to sleep better since I read someone's post about putting a pillow between my knees. I have to drive quite a bit for my job which as we know is really bad. I find using a lumbar support and angled seat cushion a help though.
Thanks for all the advice and help. Great forum! X

Hi M&D - not sure what kind of trouble you're having. Hitting "save" too soon? If you are using a PC, you might be hitting Ctrl+S by mistake, when you are trying to do Shift+S (upper case "s"). Any ideas? Keep trying. - Surviving

hi all...a graphic in the text was confusing the system. took out the graphic. all better...

Hello - I was doing a search to find threads related to being plus size and having uterine prolapse. This is the only thread that came up. I've got the First Aid for Prolapse and book now. I was diagnosed with Cestocel and Rectocel a few years ago and have worn a pessary during this time. I'm now told I have a bulging prolapse, and recommended a hysterectomy. I'm having constipation as well and use a squatty potty, which I also read the thread on so will stop using it. I'm having a terrible time with my body right now as I'm also dealing with gallstones and perhaps problems with a lap band (2007), so needless to say, I'm overwhelmed. I do not want to have surgery and want to do this WW protocol. I too have a large belly that often feels like it's being pulled down through my vagina! Assuming it's because of the prolapse, that my "apron" now has zero support. I guess, what I am hoping for is some guidance on here to any other insights on how to accommodate for the belly. My knees are weak as well, so I have a time of squatting and modifying the floor exercises as as I can - hoping they will improve. Anyone have suggestions for me with all this information? Thanks in advance -

Hi Bellamomma and welcome,
I am not a small woman either and also have a belly, and a severely prolapsed uterus. Woman of all sizes, shapes, and ages can do this work. It just takes dedication and time to pull those organs more forward into the lower belly.
If your knees are bad, you can do some of the exercise in a chair. Just remember that mastering the posture is the key here, and a good amount of firebreathing doesn't hurt either. It took me almost a year to get my body to take on the posture and along the way I started to notice the differences of this work on my body and prolapse symptoms, and my belly never got in the way of my progress, so just keep it up and monitor your changes as you go along. It is an amazing process.

This gives me hope! Thank you

I did not have big belly, actually I was trying very hard to shrink it by wearing tight pants and tuck in my belly... until I found this forum half year ago. So the first thing I learned was to let go with my belly, do not wear tight pants. Believe me that was hard at the beginning, but finally I gave away all my nice pants and buy new loose ones to accommodate my growing belly, from a size 6 to 7, and now 8 and 9. I have gain a few lbs too, it all went to my belly. As long as it helps with my POP, I can put up with big belly, and it is comfortable, I learned to live with this with love!!
