I'm new here and was contemplating surgery for three prolapses

Body:

I just found this site the other day and am so-o-o glad to have this kind of alternative information. I'm 60 years old and was told I had a cystocele and rectolele and prolaped uterus about two years ago (although I think this has been gradually happening since the birth of my second son 18 years ago). The cystocele is the most difficult for me. I find the outside bulging from the dropped bladder very irritating and it keeps me from being as active as I'd like to be. I do not want to have surgery but I've been using a ring pessary for 1 1/2 years and although it helps, it does keep slipping around and up behind the bladder. I'm adjusting this thing dozens of times a day. It had got to the point that I was going to go the gynie and talk again about the surgery. Now I've ordered the video and am hoping to get this posture thing going but I have a couple of questions. Do you think it might help the pessary stay in the right position? How do you sit when working at a computer (which I do for several hours a day). And is there any hope that the posture might reverse the bladder protrusion? I only wish that I'd found out about this a few years ago when these celes were still higher up so it could have been arrested then. Anyway, I'm glad to be able to talk to someone about this. Nobody I know is in the shape that I am.

It sounds like your pessary ring is not the correct size for you - There are many sizes and types and I would get your Gynae to try a different one.

My mother is 63 and she has a passary ring and never has to even touch it

Posture can help your bladder to go back in a bit - I know this cos mine was 'peeking' and now it isnt

Good luck :)

Thanks for this. I did have it resized once but will see if perhaps a larger one won't keep slipping around. I'm trying to do the posture but I keep forgetting. Guess it takes time to really 'get it.' Can't wait to get the video.

You're in good company here with lots of women in your age group benefitting from this work. I think all women with prolapse should go through the pessary drill just to see if they can find one that helps. With that said, many of us feel a pessary would only hamper the satisfactory level of comfort achieved with the postural and breath work. The key to sitting is to do so with the strength of your own spine. There are many chairs available that allow this. And YES!, you should notice the bladder pulling up with this work.

Thanks Christine,
I understand what you're saying about the pessary possibly interfering with the postural and breath work. I'm going to take it out at night and use it only when I'm uncomfortable. Already I'm finding some relief through the posture and the breathing. Not sure whether the posture is correct without the video yet, but I think it's somewhat correct. Went for a walk today and noticed a tightness in the butt and the hamstrings.
It's wonderful to think that there may be some improvement without surgery.
