Attention: Armande re: advise on a 2nd pregnancy

Body:

Hi,

I read your post on 22/11/04, I had a 9 pound baby and had lost complete control of my bladder for about 3 months after his birth. I had an Ob deliver my baby, and it was a complete "assisted" birth. I still have problems with stress and urge incontinence and have just found out that I am pregnant with my second baby. My Ob/Gyn said the next baby I have has to be c-section, and like your daughter I am not keen on this at all. I did alot of research before I was pregnant with various health professionals, and apart from my Ob/Gyn, most say that a natural water birth with no Ob intervention would be the way to go.

Now that I am pregnant I am terrified of a natural birth and going through the extreme pain and discomfort I suffered after my son's birth. I am going to see a Urogyno who is supposed to be one of the best in our country (Australia), just to get another opinion, she has been described as "open-minded" for a doctor in her field, so I'll hopefully get some positive feedback on future births. Any worthwhile information I get from her I will post.

I'm also going to do one-on-one birth classes with a Natural Childbirth and Hypno Birthing Educator, so again, any worthwhile information I get from her I will post.

I wish your daughter all the luck for her pregnancy and birth, I have been in her shoes and it's not nice.

Regards,

Dear Deb,

Congradulations on your pregnancy!! PLEASE keep us posted...so many of us have followed your story and we'll be very interested to hear all that you learn.

All good wishes for a wonderful pregnancy and birth.

Christine

Hi,

Well sad news to report, I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks and 4 days, I'm still waiting for tests to confirm that it is complete, so hopefully won't have to spend a day at the hospital for a curette.

Any advice anyone has on things to avoid in future pregnancy would be much appreciated, I'm sick of hearing it just happens, we don't know why, don't worry you don't need to do anything different next time - call me a control freak, but I would like to do something positive to help my body recover from this and hopefully prepare for another pregnancy.

Through my research I found that listeria (caused by some foods and bad food preparation) can cause miscarriage, but I haven't found comprehensive details of this on any of the websites I've looked at - so any information from anyone would be greated appreciated.

Thank you.

Deb

Christine,

Thank you for your reply, your words have certainly helped me, I especially liked your comment "you are so young"!!!

I did purchase Ina May's Guide To Childbirth, haven't finished reading it yet, do you remember the name of the story you referred to?

Once the tests have been completed and I'm given the all clear, I'm sure I'll feel better about the whole thing and I hope to have good news again soon in the not too distance future.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Regards,

Deb

...I've leafed through Ina May's Guide again and again today and I can't find it! I'm remembering that it was there, but it must've been somewhere else...I know it was from amongst my library books and I'll run across it again soon and post it to you...:-)

As always, thanks for your quick reply.

I'm sure I'll come across it when I'm reading her book.

Thanks again.

Deb

Deb - the story is on pages 81-85 ;-)
