Women speak up on midwife supported birth

Body:

I just wanted to let you ladies know that I had a very positive experience today. My midwife organised a day talking to our local newspaper about women who opt to midwife-led care, in particular home birth.

It was a huge turn out and it was really great to hear other women's stories on how positive their home birth experiences were, and to show how the hospital system makes it harder for women birthing, not easier.

Anyway, we all shared our stories and had a big group photo taken. I can't wait to see the article, and it's great that women are advocating for change in this way - through their own personal stories. I think it was even a bit of an eye opener for the journalist who started off saying how home birth would be less safe and ended by being amazed by what wonderful birth experiences were had.

Let's hope the message gets out there more and more!

I wish I had more time !

As a birth doula and student midwife, I have attended many home and hospital births. As a rule, homebirths are much gentler and more mother and baby friendly!
