Office Chair?

Body:

Hi Everyone,

Any suggestions for an office chair? Any thoughts on the balance ball chair from Gaiam? I'm tempted to saw the legs off my desk so I can sit on the floor with it- but not practical with a 6 month old and a 4 year old I suppose! LOL!

Thanks,
Nora

Nora,

Some time ago, I purchased a kneeling chair for my home office. I don't know how I managed without it! I found a good quality one for less than $75 (US) at bizchair.com - check out their weekly and monthly specials.

Wishing you comfy sitting!

J.

thank you thank you thank you J!

Hi Nora

Seats were something that were discussed at length about two years ago on this Forum. Try using the search box on the left to look for similar words.

Personally, I try to just use any seat I am in as a stool, and avoid leaning back which only encourages me to slouch. I have a stool in my office made out of an old office chair that I took the back and seat off, and replaced the seat with a piece of thick ply, adjusting it so it is level. It does have an adjustable height and casters so I can use it anywhere, and even scoot around on it.

I have put a foam wedge on my car seat so it is more level, and have the back pretty upright with a small lumbar cushion to keep my lumbar curve on long drives.

Kneeling stools are pretty good too, but need to be very well upholstered to keep your knees happy for any length of time. Good luck.

If you feel like having an occasional veg out in a squishy chair or sofa, just make sure that you do a good job of slouching, ie lie down as much as you can, so your lumbar curve is not under pressure.

Cheers

but a stool is better- then I can straddle it which feels good to me- and kneel on it too. And no chair back for me either- and my truck seat is awesome- it has a tilt function and adjustable lumbar- good stuff

Hi Alemama

I like the idea of a truck seat but I have a very small office. I don't think I could fit a truck in there.

Dear Ones,

I suppose I'm lucky - I really hate to sit in anything soft - must be the hyperactivity. I use a big wooden dining room chair for a desk chair and from this I can stretch and exercise. I highly recommend it.

I use a "make me at home Kentucky front porch rocker" when I'm relaxing. It is made of small logs. I need to feel I can bounce out of what I am sitting in quickly and be off - where - I couldn't tell you - just a strange physical need.

I bought a sofa recently for my big room and I think I've sat on it perhaps twice.

In the car, I try to sit away from the chair back. Is this a bad idea?

Change what you can change; be happy with what you cannot.

All I can say is that if you are considering a Gaiam chair, save some money by checking out the ones they have at Isokinetics Inc (www.isokineticsinc.com). They carry the Gaiam chair but also offer a private label version of the Gaiam chair for a lot less. I have one and they are well built. I like sitting on it because it forces you to sit up straight. Good luck.

Thanks B! Great site!

I had never heard of this chair before. I found one on Amazon.co.uk but it is pricey. Is this a good type of chair for prolapse sufferers?

hi A-

Don't know- just ordered one. I like the idea that it has wheels and I can get off it quickly if the little ones need me. Try "googling" balance ball chair and you can probably get some sites in the UK that may sell it for less than amazon. Will post once I've used it a bit and let you know...
