Vaginal Irritation

Body:

Hello, Everyone!

I just wrote some information about this topic, but I think it disappeared. Guess I didn't submit it correctly. So - here it goes again! -

Several years ago (before my prolapse), I had been having occasional irritation in my vaginal area. My Gyn gave me creams - which didn't work - and suggested that I go to a large medical center in my area for laser work on my vaginal area. I decided I didn't want to do lasers.

But I thought about the situation and realized that the irritation occurred when I traveled. Then I realized that I used the soaps in the hotel bathrooms when I traveled.
So I bought some Neutrogena non-scented bar soap - and the irritation stopped. Evidentally, there was something in regular soap that was irritating.

However, I have a Stage 3 prolapse now. And I had been having terrible irritation, burning and swelling in my vaginal area. So I stopped using any soap. And - it worked!!
I have very little discomfort now. I've also noticed that the swelling of the prolapse is slightly less.

I make sure that I wash thoroughly with water when showering - and I cleanse with a wet tissue or wet paper towel and then gently dry thoroughly everytime when using the bathroom. I also use a small amount of salve or A&D ointment each time.

The level of comfort is soooo much better. Hope this works for you! Bridi

I have exactly the same problem. Haven't been able to use regular soap "there" for years. I use either Cetaphil liquid cleanser or a generic equal. DEFINITELY get irritated if I am forced to use regular soap.

Apparently, my urethra/bladder are very easily irritated. A lot of times when I would wear a tampon, if the string was in a place where it was pressed against my urethra, it irritated me.

my dd is very prone to such irritation
we never use soap down there, just plenty of water, and if you have the time - airdry!

and the WW vulva balm is WONDERFULLY soothing

yep-

same for me- highly fragranced soaps are terrible- I go for oatmeal or non-scented/natural vegetable oil soaps and very sparingly and it seems to be better. I've also found wearing no undies at night, wearing skirts and dresses rather than pants and shorts stops the issue too. mind you I've had to give up caffeine and alcohol too as they also iritate my bladder/urethra combo.

anyone else think there might also be a link between soap and yeast infections? crossed my mind as soap seems to bring that on too...

In our experience, not every irritation that looks like yeast is yeast. could be its plain old irritation from soap.
but otoh, so many soaps these days are antibacterial, I wonder if that can't help the yeasties proliferate and cause problems in the area.
