Pilates-good or bad for prolapse?

Body:

Hi Gang

It's me again, Sheppie. Still hanging in there in the 'ole prolapse department. Now 9 months PP, my PT informs me I have a "stubborn bladder". I guess she thought it would go up with treatment.
Anyhow my question to you is this....she teaches Pilates and I have just completed level one or beginner with her. I no longer see her due to $$ now but want to continue with these pilates classes. The basis is core strength and I surely do need that. So in your experience with either pilates or yoga or any sport that focuses on the core, is this safe to do? I know that the abdominal stuff scares the bejesus out of me b/c it was doing crunches that made my bladder (6 weeks pp) fall away in the first place.

CAn this make it worse? Or is the damage done and I can continue on?

Happy St. Patricks Day.

Hi Sheppie

I think it is dangerous to say that the damage has been done, as we know that it is *possible* to damage the supportive tissue enough for the uterus and bladder to come down so low that they emerge from the vagina.

That's not trying to scare ya. Just that I feel we need to follow the 'do no harm' principle. ie, don't take unnecessary risks.

I don't do pilates, but I do know that I can do crunches that lift the head, neck and a little of the shoulders without feeling there is any downward pressure on my already badly damaged pelvic fasciae. It actually feels really nice just to get that bit of movement going. I am of the 'moderation in all things' school.

I guess it also depends on what you regard the core as. One of the good things about dance is that it all happens in an upright posture where all the natural structures can be exercised together with gravity to help build fitness. It exercises the whole body together. Since all the bones and muscles and fascia are joined up to each other this makes great sense to me.

Cheers

I always look towards your answers. I decided to not enroll this time around. I will use my beginner level and become stronger. Thank you
