New member fantic for posture advice

Body:

I had my regular pap exam yesterday and discovered that my cystocele was much worse than last year, whereupon the gyn brought in her partner to discuss surgery and they decided that a hysterectomy was indicated since I am post menopausal and my uterus, in their opinion, would prolapse if I only had a bladder surgery. They said it was an elective surgery, but as I get older it will get worse as well as the surgery will be more diffricult for me to handle. I was so discouraged and am now very motivated to learn how posture and exercises might help. I'll buy the book, but I need to start on things yesterday. Can anyone help?

I gotta start kiddo's bed time- but boy have you come to the right place. there is a FaQs page and a search function.
welcome to the forum.

hello & welcome to the site
first, take a deep breath.
what you are reporting from your gyn is ridiculous in my opinion. first of all, why on earth remove a uterus when its the bladder that's prolapsed? and the literature clearly shows that hysterectomies oftentimes lead to pelvic organ prolapse (including vaginal vault itself)? you don't say how old you are, but really, I hate the scare tactics (if you don't do it now then it will be worse later, or not possible later, etc).
but, good for you that you are motivated to take this into your own (and very capable) hands. get the book, definitely. make sure to buy the second edition, it has more diagrams and exercises in it, and was revised a bit too. worth its weight in gold.
in the interim, read up on the faq's here to start getting used to the posture. avoid all straining on the toilet. avoid constipation like the plague. try not to wear clothing that is tight around the waist.
and most of all, stay positive. so many of us have avoided surgery and are living quite well with prolapse. mine is no longer symptomatic, and I've even gone on to have another baby with it! so there is reason to remain hopeful. pretty soon, I bet, you'll regret choosing 'discouraged' as your user name. but as long as you don't wind up regretting cutting out your uterus, youre in good shape.

stick around, keep coming back with questions. this is a wonderful group.

Hello granolamom,
I'm 63, going to babysit my little granola eating grandson tomorrow. Thanks for the advice, I feel so much better knowing that there are things I can do, why not try? (no longer quite so) discouraged

Thanks for the response, I'm going to read everything available on this site and I feel better already knowing I'm not alone.
(not so) discouraged
