Sea Sponge Question

Body:

Does anyone know if it matters where your sea sponges come from?

Just that I have seen a load being sold for artists and it says

''Hippospongia Communis” (Mediterranean Honey Comb or Woolsponge or Sheepwool) and Fina Sponges (Silky Grass). Their Greek name is Kapadikos and Matapas respectively. We have sponges in different size and shapes always with the same Best Greek Sea Sponges’s quality. Nothing beats the luxury of a Greek natural sea sponge.
''

They look in the pic the same as the other ones but cost a hell of alot less...

Just wondering if it matters where they are harvested or whatever?

Few words about the uses and applications of the natural sea sponges.

Natural Sea Sponges can be used for a multitude of purposes:

Application and removal of make up and cosmetics,
Deep cleansing and general skin care,
Massaging to stimulate the circulatory system and revitalise the skin,
Baby bathing and skin care,
Skin hygiene and care for teenagers,
For a luxurious bath and shower experience,
For Pet hygiene, horse ‘brushing’, etc,
Decoration for ponds and aquariums,
Proffesional use in painting, pottery, ceramics, etc,

In brief our natural sea sponges are:

· 100 % Absorbent

· Soft in texture

· Non abrasive

· Biodegradable and 100% enviroment friendly

· Hypo – allergenic

Very low in PH
Odorless and self cleaning
Non staining

Can anyone tell me?
Thanks

I emailed the woman at the sea pearls web site she said

They are the same but the holes may be a teeny bit larger so might not be as good for menstruation as would not hold as much blood loss etc...

But for the reason I would be using them for they should be fine but might degrade and need replacing a little bit sooner that the smaller holed ones...

Gues it's worth a try as IF they are ok - Then UK people get THIRTY of them for £6 instead of TWO for £9

If not - then every female person I know is getting make up bags and make up natural sponges lollllllllll (Obviously not the one I have tested)

lol

Hi Sue

I would think that Jade and Pearl sponges would probably be size and quality-sorted. The ones you could buy in bulk might be just that, unsorted and all sorts of shapes and sizes. OK for some applications, but possibly not for what you want. You might only get a few that are the right size and shape to use, but it might work out cheaper in the longrun.

First google the sponge species and find out what shape they are. Then, if they look OK on a marine biology website I think I would go for the 30 for 6 pound option first, and as you say, find ways you can package the excess sponges as gifts, or thread the little ones on a ring of cord as shower sponges, or car washers or elephant scrubbers or typo gremlin repellers.... I dunno. ;-)

Let us know how you go. It will be good info for others.

Cheers
