Kegels a waste of time?

Body:

Hi - I'm new to this website. I have prolapse which I first noticed after the birth of my second baby. Reading this website, it sounds like mine would be called rectocele and cystocele. From what I've read so far, I'm wondering if my physical therapist might be a waste of time. I've only been once so far but she basically has me doing kegels and an exercise similar to when you're trying to put on tight jeans. (Also she mentioned not straining and posture using the bathroom. I don't typically have problems there though since eating Fiber One cereal for breakfast nearly everyday.) I've been doing these darn kegels since I discovered the problem around 7 mos ago. I can't see a difference. Has anyone had any luck w/kegels? Should I go to the therapist once more and say - what else ya got? Or should I try something else all together? It's so discouraging to not notice any improvement after all this time. I wonder if I ever will at this point. My second baby is about 8.5 mos and I was hoping to see at least some improvement by now. Any suggestions or thoughts? I appreciate it greatly!

I think it is in the blog "women danced the human race" where an alternative activity is suggested in place of kegels. I am trying to work my way through the various suggestions and make a place for them, as well as weed out bad info, so you are not alone.

Glad you found us. the best place to start is the homepage with the FaQs. Ask any questions you can think of. One thing I can tell you is that I am still finding improvements 19 months postpartum. I think as long as it isn't a financial strain why not do the physical therapy- as long as it isn't going to hurt what is there to lose? As far as Kegels go- well my feeling is there is nothing wrong with working that muscle during sex- or while lifting- or even having a routine where you do a certain amount in a certain way- but I think body positioning makes a difference and I know you can do too many- and most importantly that kegels will not make a prolapse go away.
oh ya and no more tight jeans :)
