Spotting

Body:

I am 54 and had a period for the first time in 9 months end of last week. Very mild flow, lasted about 5 days. Yesterday I wore a tampon for several hours to try to hold up the cystocele and when I took it out there was a small amount of mucus and blood on it. Now I am wiping a small amount of pinkish mucus today. It felt uncomfortable when I was wearing the tampon, so I am unsure if I irriated the vagina or if this is infection or if it is still just drainage from my period last week. I never had any spotting between periods when they were regular, so this is new to me, so is the cystocele. After not having a period for 9 months, I am not sure what to expect now. I am also having some twinges of pain off and on in my right side, ovary area, so maybe I am trying to ovulate again. Uterus feels alittle sore too. Cystocele is really bulging so I wonder if my uterus is still trying to decide if it wants to start something again, like more period. Anyone else go thru this when heading to menopause? Two years ago I went thru the flooding periods, then things got better, now this. Thanks for any help. Connie

Sounds a bit like me, Connie. My body vaccilates between knowing what it is doing, just like it has for the last 40 years, and flat-lining, weeks on end of nothing at all. I think you are right. Some of the signals are there, others are not.

It is probably the very reason that many women go off to the gyno, seeking HRT, hysterectomies, diagnosis of suspected major illness, or a magic bullet that will just make them 'normal' again. What they don't realise is that peri/menopause can be a little like a roller coaster, similar in a way to being an adolescent in reverse. It happens at the beginning ... it happens at the end. For women who don't like roller coasters, I imagine it can be most upsetting. Hang in there. This too will pass.

Cheers
