Another cause for severe pelvic pain

Body:

Hi All

I just found a cause of severe pelvic pain that I didn't know about. Thought I would share it.

After pelvic repair surgery, or obstetric surgery like episiotomy, a neuroma can form in the fascia in the rectovaginal septum. A neuroma is a kind of knot of nerve tissue that can form when a nerve is cut. It can produce a lot of pain with any pressure. A surgeon can excise the neuroma which supposedly puts an end to the pain. You can find the article I was reading by googling "severe vaginal pain caused by a neuroma".

This is weird, you say, Louise talking about the wonders of surgery. Well, pelvic pain is sometimes incorrectly blamed on scar tissue (neuromae can be very small and still cause major pain). Why have major surgery to remove scar tissue if it is not the problem, or spend your life in fairy land as a result of the medication for the pain? The excision surgery is very site specific. If a woman is having severe chronic pain all possibilities are up for grabs. Nothing else will fix a neuroma.

It might apply to somebody we know.

Cheers

Louise
