TV

Body:

Well, here we are.

Yesterday I was listening to a radio program on community radio from the States called Democracy Now(?). There was an interview with a guy who died only a couple of years ago, hero of the pacifism and folk music scenes, who fought in the Korean War and came back an angry mess. A priest who was running the guest house he was living in got sick of him damaging the property and told him in no uncertain terms that he needed to become a pacifist, so he did.

I cannot remember what disgusting thing he saw on TV one day, but it was bad enough to make him take the TV outside into the paddock, blindfold it, tape a cigarette to its screen, light the ciggy and let it burn down appropriately, then stood back and fired a bullet right through its screen. Yess!!!!!

I have been known to turn the tele off at the wall, unplug it and cut the plug off with pliers when my kids wouldn't turn it off and get in the bath. I was not a popular Mummy that day but they got over it. Life was wonderful until Grandad arrived several weeks later from Melbourne and fixed the plug so he could watch the cricket.

Alemama, I like your idea about the projector. I have many times been lying on my back on the family room floor doing stretches and thinking about how I could fasten a projector onto the ceiling. I say forget the pull-down screen. Just paint one wall a very light colour and use the whole wall! If you are going to watch movies, do it properly!

Does anybody need a bigger TV. You've got to be joking.

Cheers

Louise

I completely agree. We watch almost no terrestial TV, nor do the kids. We stick with DVD's (and even then it's rare! no time! i don't get how people have time to watch TV...), as you know what you are getting, and even then it's almost none. I love the idea of a projector--I know people who have done it, only problem is the need for a dark room. But it's such a great thing to do, especially as it keeps you in control of what you are watching! No anxiety from unexpected images, no junk... just the good stuff.

ours broke back in April, we were planning to replace it but didn't have the time. and now we just like our lives better without it.
we still do have a small dvd player for the kids, but they don't much like it (spoiled by the bigger screen) so they opt to play instead. ok, sometimes they opt to fight instead, but either way we have no plans of bringing another TV into the house.

I remember watching Princess Diana’s funeral on TV, but around that time was the last of TV for us. For me, it’s like choosing real life. Plus, they take up so much space. There’s no doubt that some is worth watching though. Shouldn’t there be a giant data base - like iTunes - where you could download onto your computer any show you want? Maybe such thing exists, but I’ve never heard of it. Anyway, right now I couldn’t even find the time to watch National Geographic. But somehow I just made time to sew my granddaughter school clothes..

ovguide, hulu, tvshack, megavideo, youtube.....you can get anything you want. and no commercials! oh and most places are FREE.
It is fun to snug up in bed with my dh and computer and catch a show. No remote necessary.
