Glad I'm not alone

Body:

About 2 years ago, my GYN told me that I had prolapse. He told me that if I had a hysterectomy, I'd feel better and wouldn't have the
discomfort anymore. I told him I didn't want one. I was also told that the uterus was no longer needed since I was done having children.
And he also looked around the office and said "Look at all these women who don't have their uteruses anymore. They're just fine." I think the nurses try to put a bug in you bonnet also. When he was examining me, the nurse casually asked the doctor--"So, is the prolapse any worse?" He said that maybe this year, I'd need the hysterectomy. He said if the prolapse got worse, I might not be able to walk. Why he said, I'm not sure. He knows my mother's family has a history of cancer, so I think he's playing on my emotions. He has always told me that he's there for whatever I decide. He's a sweetie at times but at other times really gets on my nerves.:(
Anyway, I have been searching the Web for SOMETHING that would me that I wouldn't one and found this site. It's a blessing. I've ordered the book and tape and can't wait for it to come in the mail.
I started going to Curves International about 18 mos. ago. I didn't think about it helping me with prolapse, but one day I noticed that I had hardly any discomfort. So, I guess that's another plus for Curves.
Also, I'm glad to know that others have mentioned the fact that 'it' doesn't stay in position all the time. The other day, it hung lower than normal and then I thought--maybe surgery. But, this site has told me not to do that.
So, thank you, thank you, thank you.:*:*

Welcome Fairmaiden and thanks for writing,

Your story is, unfortunately, all too common but hearing it again and again reminds all of us to keep this work moving forward so our daughters and granddaughters will have better care.

It is true that nurses are probably the most hysterectomized population of women...hard to establish any reference points when you're that immersed in the system.

Thanks for sharing your story and we are all very proud of you for using your head and searching for better answers.

yes, i also found that the NP in my gyn's office was the quickest to recommend surgery to lift my bladder. "He'll fix you right up ... and take the uterus too while he is at it," she said, matter-of-factly, like it was all no big deal. she seems the least likely to discuss optioins, and the most perturbed at my resistance.
i am in search of a new gyn, iin part because of the nurse! ...

still dealing/living with prolapse. Amazing! I just checked into my history on here & reread my first post. Today, I also read the post about checking where you are in your cycle. That is so true. I was thinking that whenever I had my periods years ago, I would feel the prolapse/pressure. It's true to this day. Thanks for whomever shared that tidbit of info. The prolapse is worse around a certain time of the month.
Anywho, thanks for this site & supporting each other.

Noticed that things are most annoying when having my period - Everything is much lower (maybe cos of additional moisture/wetness I spose)

I still think we need pics we can kinda overlay of 'in posture' and 'our of posture' :-) It would make things alot easier to understand for newbies

Sometimes you are holding someone else's heart whithin your hands. You can drop that heart & bruise it. You can squash that heart & hurt it. Or you can stomp on it & totally annihalate it. You stomp on that heart or bruise it. It can forever be changed.
