What do you do with your children?

Body:

You mommies: What do you do with your children while you're trying to do the workout video?

It was already suggested that I use frozen blueberries to keep them occupied while I spend my entire morning (okay, maybe not the *whole* entire morning) sitting on the potty trying to convince the tube of toothpaste to squeeze itself. So to speak.

Now I need to be able to work out without the baby fussing and the others arguing and.....mostly I need a full-time nanny. But short of doing that, what are some other tips for keeping children busy without using videos as a babysitter?

...but I don't like seeing a question asked with 0 responses :)
Have you found anything that helps with your kids yet? Sounds like you are having a rough time at the moment so I doubt you are doing much exercise wise. When you are ready again, what about getting them to do the workout along with you? It will probably turn into a funny body throwing, flopping around sort of thing for them, and you can quietly go along with the workout in the meantime perhaps?
Big hugs and I hope things improve for you soon

My 3 y.o. does them with me and it's very cute. But the others aren't very interested. (They do, however, like the music.)

I'm learning to be patient.

I still haven't been able to get through the whole workout video
In theory, I'd set the kids up with something relatively interesting and safe while I exercise nearby, but it just doesn't work for my kids.
a few years ago, I really needed to be able to run on the treadmill for 20 min and then grab a quick 5 min shower. for my sanity. so I did use blues clues videos as a babysitter. I figured one video a day is not going to ruin my kids, and I could not come up with a better option. then I had a baby and that was no longer an option as I couldn't safely leave the preschooler and toddler alone with a baby. but my point is, that while tv as babysitting is far from ideal or optimal, its not abusive or neglectful either. when used sparingly, I mean.

for a short while during my last pg I was able to get in about 20 min of exercise time while the bigger kids were in school and it was just the two yo home with me. I had a bag of books/markers/toys that stayed in my room that he was only allowed to play with while I got on the treadmill.
but if there was more than one kid around, no dice.

its a tough one. (((Hugs)))

You are right, and that's what I'm going to have to resort to. At least NetFlix has some new Thomas the Tank Engine videos now. ;)

with a baby it's challenging! I don't have a baby anymore, but we homeschool and I need to be ON when they are up and ready to go, so what I've found best is to get up earlier than they do and work out then. This gets my day off to a great start with endorphins pumping. Sometimes, as well, as soon as dh gets home, I take a breather and go for a run. I rarely try to work out when everyone is up and awake because it ends up often being frustrating to all! good luck!

There's a surprising number of us homeschooling families on board here. Does that strike anybody else as odd?

no, doesn't strike me as odd at all
I think that the type of woman who is open to homeschooling is probably more interested in approaching prolapse this way rather than surgery. and vice versa.

After I thought about it, I realized it should be no surprise that people here are already naturally-minded. Otherwise they wouldn't have likely even begun to consider any alternative to surgery.

From my experience, once you've seen the DVD a few times, you can remember the exercises and kind of spread them out over the day. I don't think it's that important to do them all in one fell swoop -- though there are cardiovascular benefits in the WW workout for sure, it's not like you are doing them to get your heart rate up. For example, I do the plie-releves 2x a day when I brush my teeth. I fold my laundry on the floor; this is when I get the pelvic rocks in. I do the half-moons while talking on the phone. Etc, etc, etc. And honestly, simply standing, walking, and sitting in ww posture make a huge difference even without the workout exercises. So don't feel like you are not healing if you can't fit an entire session in.

I think you posted somewhere about breastfeeding and posture? I can't find the post. Anyway, I find sitting cross-legged on the floor or with my feet straight out (two of the classic women's positions) is quite comfortable. It was hard at first, but man, my arms and back are strong now! And side-laying on the bed is great, too. Also, in the early days, I ate as many meals as was socially acceptable at my coffee table (me sitting on the floor). I could nurse and eat just fine like this.

Best wishes

Thank, Bad Mirror. Yes, I did ask about nursing in posture. I'm just having to put a bunch of pillows behind my back to make sure I'm up far enough. I can't sit with my feet straight out in front of me for very long because my calf muscles are so tight.

I understand what you're saying about not fitting in a whole workout session. I try to do the beginning part, up through Firebreathing, and then I skip to the Cool Down at the end. I'm lucky if I get that done every day, but I DO feel a difference. My back loosens up and I can go about my business with less back pain. If all I do is posture I'm in such severe pain it's difficult to walk.

As soon as my husband gets back from his very long business trip, I'm going to go see a specialist. I fear there's something more going on than meets the eye (or doesn't meet the eye, as the case may be).
