rectocele

Body:

Hi
I am new to this site so I don't know if I am posting on the right forum.
I had a proctogram yesterday and the radiologist pointed out a large bulge which he said was a rectocele. He also said that I would need surgery and he would write a report to my doctor. I am relieved that after numerous tests that they have found out what is wrong with me but I am concerned about surgery.

It sounds like you are relieved to have a diagnosis and explanation for what you have been experiencing, but WOW doctors are so quick to jump for the scalpel! Makes sense, I guess, since they are surgeons, though it would really be a more appropriate following of the Hippocratic Oath if they actually used more methods for healing than slicing and dicing. Ah well, that is why we are here, there is enough information from real women with varying levels of rectoceles on this forums. Do a search and settle in for hours of reading. Information and tools other than the knife will be your lifeline.
Can you tell us a bit more about your personal situation and how this rectocele came to be?

Hi Pat,
Welcome to WW. You'll find a wealth of knowledge here, and so much to help your body. Know that surgery is not the only option, and that so much can change with postural work, strengthening your whole body, looking at what you wear, how you move, and what you eat.
First, might help to find out a bit about what you have been experiencing in terms of what is wrong, as there is so much wisdom here about what helps with all sorts.
if you can, order the book and DVD and start the posture, start the excercises. Also look at your diet--I have found this to be crucial in dealing with my POP. I can share more, but in short a diet very high in fibre, lots of veg, pulses, fruit, no dairy (other than fresh live yogurt), no sweets---that all avoids inflammation and helps with the constipation that can come all to easily with a rectocele. also i just started magnesium citrate and that is helping a lot as well.

happy to share more if helpful, but hope to hear more from you so can gear this to what is of help to you.
