Finally Allowed To Cry and Grieve

Body:

I have a 91 year old friend, (I'm much younger). I visited here recently in her nursing home. She is a life long friend, and was a vibrant, intelligent, creative, giving, caring woman, in her day, special in every way. During our tea and scones she asked me if she could tell me a life long secret that she had not felt she could share with anyone. She said she trusted me and wanted someone to know what she had held inside for so many years. She told me she had had a hysterectomy in her 40's and had felt like a different woman both physically and mentally, broken and damaged ever since. In her day, hysterectomy was the norm. At the time she didn't know she had a choice. Again it was done for all the wrong reasons. She had not been allowed to tell anyone how she felt after this invasive surgery. I held her and let her cry. Finally a release of all she had been holding inside for so many years. These surgeries have to stop. My friend asked me to post a brief anonymous posting on the WW site for her as she is now blind.

Again we need to get out of "our closets" and shout to the world with hope, caring and love that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and everything will be ok and that it is not our fault. Women need to know that change is possible and learn to share the guilt to lift the burden. Bless you for listening and being there for her during this time.
Love you lots
Heavenly

What a powerful story! I want to give that woman a big hug. Thank God you finally gave her a voice.

Thanks for sharing her story with us. It just makes me angry and sad, who knows how many woman had to suffer phisically and emotionally like her.
These surgeries have to stop. For good.

((((hugs))))
