keeping on track

Body:

I can't count how many times a day I have to remind myself about
WW posture. I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and there I am slouching again.
For years I had done the shoulders back, belly in approach whenever I found myself slouching. Old habits die hard.
I also realise that I had a very bad way of pushing my friend the wheelbarrow around. I do a reasonable amount of that and I found that I was leaning over at the obtuse angle that Christine warns us about. Now I try to push using more legs muscles and upright posture.
I am now 57 and I guess it is going to take a while of doing things right before all is well again.
It certainly came as a shock to me that as a reasonably fit woman with a great diet and having had 2 very easy childbirths, that I should suddenly develop a cystocele. I did deliver in the era of episiotomies so I have that as a legacy.
Nobody and nothing had ever prepared me for the shock of POP and mine is nowhere near as bad as others experience.
What really annoys me is that here in Australia and in most developed countries, is that lots and lots of money goes into supporting screening for illnesses. With just a portion of that money, a lot more good could be achieved by preventing the illness in the first place.
So I am getting the posture right, I have got firebreathing underway and nauli, bit by bit I add the exercises. I try to break them into achieveable sessions that I link eg when making a cup of coffee I do some firebreathing and some relive plie. Add a few other assorted exercises when brushing teeth. It helps remind me to do some exercises.
When I get a bit more confident and disciplined I would like to approach the health system and maybe we can get a grant. Perhaps Christine could come to Australia. What do you thing AussieMum and Lousie- could we use Christine in Australia?

Ha, yes Gardengirl - imagine that, Christine could do a tour and workshops to get us all on track, how wonderful would that be!

Wouldn't it be great if people got trained up in taking WW exercise classes and workshops to prevent and treat POP! Now there is an idea :-) I always love doing group exercise rather than the same thing all the time at home alone, in fact I think that is why my motivation wanes with the DVD. I really miss going to exercise classes where it is varied each time.

Let's wait until this new government gets sorted out, and what will happen with federal takeover of the health (ie sickness) system. I think most of the health promotion stuff happens currently at a state level, and it would probably be like herding cats getting them to provide joint funding for a national tour.

Exercise, independence and mobility for elderly people may be a better avenue to explore. Once a framework is there it could be easily extended to include younger women, childbirth educators, midwives, phys ed instructors etc.

I think the main impediment is likely to be the degree to which the medical paradigm dominates all health issues. This is why the lifestyle paradigm might work better.

I keep seeing evidence of a shift in thinking away from zip and tuck, ie acknowledging the role of the lumbar curve, in exercise circles. I am hoping this might open a door.

Perhaps we should do a plan and a budget, so we can put in applications with our homework already done, if an opportunity arises?
