help help help!!! pap smear made my POP worse!

Body:

Today I went to my doctor for my 7 week pp check up. Yes I got my referral!!:) what I am so upset about is that she first did an internal and then a pap smear and now things are worse then ever before!!! I'm terrified! What is going on??? Has this happened to other women?? Will it correct itself?? I don't understand.

She told me that my prolapse is nothing to worry about from a medical point of view. she said I should have no problem having more children either. She says even before I was pregnant I had a short vaginal canal and a low lieing uterus so she says this is 'normal for me'!!! I don't care what anyone says its NOT normal to have your cervix and back vaginal wall hanging out of your vagina! How can she say that?? Please help! I need advice!

The fact is, YOU have to live with your prolapse and you are the only one who knows how it feels. Your doctor examined you laying down and I am guessing was only there for a matter of minutes. This does not give her the authority to determine the severity of your POP. I am sorry you did not get the confirmation you would like, but you already know exactly what is happening for you.
Pap smears are often so rough on the vagina. Those horrid speculums disturb the vaginal vault on so many levels. Can you take it easy today and heal up?

hi new_mamma. so sorry to hear you had a rough time the dr's. I had a similar experience with a gyn dr examining me, telling me my vagina was 'normal' and being rather heavy handed with the speculum while doing a smear,i felt my pop was worse afterwards too, took about two weeks for the new discomfort to subside. i have vowed to be bold next time i have an examination and tell the dr BEFORE im on the bed that my vagina and pelvic organs are very tender and any 'rummaging' around in there will leave me in pain and less able for quite a while after,so to be very very gentle.i think its crazy that a dr can decide how bad a prolapse is by examining a woman lying on her back, seems logical that they should try and get a look at whats where when a woman stands,as thats when i notice my pop because everythings going downwards with gravity. my pop wasnt worsened for long after my smear, i just rested as much as i could(not v.much with a toddler and a baby!) and tried to be in posture as much as i could. i hope you also feel better soon x
