New to POP. Have Question

Body:

Would inversion therapy help POP or make it worse? I'm currently lying in bed with 2 pillows under my fanny so that I get a good bit of elevation. I'm thinking that in doing this, gravity will pull the pelvic organs back up where they belong or at least away from the "exit." However, I'm not at a 90 degree angle as described in the whole woman literature, so I'm not sure this is a good thing.

Thanks!

We have posted quite a bit about inversion in the past. Try putting 'inversion' into the Search box.

My response to your query is to say that pelvic organ prolapse is only possible when the fascia, or connective tissue that holds your pelvic organs in the right places, stretches or becomes damaged. Or when the muscles of the pelvic floor do not heal properly after tearing or being cut in episiotomy. Then the organs slide backwards, over the top of the vagina, *then* down.

Lying on your back with your butt elevated will allow them to slide up again, but the only way for them to slide forwards as well will be if you lie on your tummy with your hips elevated slightly. If you lie on your tummy (even without your hips elevated) you can rise into WW posture with your organs still forward, very easily. by getting your knees forwards and onto all fours, then standing from there. If you are lying on your back you will need to roll onto your side, then onto all fours, if you are to keep your organs forward.

It is what we do with our bodies when we are vertical that is important, ie how we exercise and how we go about everyday tasks. Lying down and resting is not usually stressful for POP symptoms, ie they go away.

The 90 degree angle is more about when we are sitting or vegging out, or when we are stressing the body, eg slouching in a comfy carseat and continually changing our feet on the pedals. In this situation our intraabdominal forces generated when lifting the feet in a slouch, or even simply breathing, will go straight down the vagina. You can feel it.
