cravings, sugar and B vitamins

Body:

Sometimes the topic of food craving appears in the forum. I remembered a thought I had many years ago about the role that refined sugar plays in cravings. In the deep recesses of my mind, if I pull away the fogginess, I seem to recall reading that carbohydrates require B vitamins to metabolise them. As sugar is pretty much devoid of vitamins, it means that as a high carbohydrate food, it has to "rob" the body's stores in order to break it down.

So if the body is lacking in B vitamins, could it be that an intense craving may result in an effort to convince you to eat carbohydrates? So sugar sneaks out as the way to go.

Alcoholics are renown for having cravings for alcohol and for being B deficient. Could part of the craving be the body screaming out for more B vitamins and as alcohol is a carbohydrate, the brain thinks - more alcohol?
