Lifting baby

Body:

I have noticed that there are a few awkward moments with my baby and trying to keep in posture. Any tips for the following?
- lifting baby out of cot - ie. Having to lean over a cot rail
- putting baby into car seat - also involves leaning over
- changing his nappy and clothes on change table - I notice it is difficult not to lean forward a bit
I want to get these things right while baby is still only lightish - it is going to get harder as he gets bigger and still can't walk.
Thanks :-)

I put the baby down on my bed for naps. I put the carseat in the middle and I sit down in the car to put her in and take her out. I change diapers on the floor, on my bed, or believe it or not, while I am standing up. It's an art:)
but the trick here is modify modify modify.
This is going by way too fast. Our baby is almost 6 months now and getting up on hands and knees and rocking! She got her first tooth this week too. Someone slow down time.

Yes, they grow up so fast! I know it's a cliche but once you're a parent, you totally get it! First tooth is very exciting!
Yep - I can see I need to start looking for alternatives. The car seat is tricky as I also have a 2 year old whose car seat is larger so baby's capsule won't fit in the middle of the car. I have found that putting my knee up on the seat feels better - ie. I don't need to use stomach so much but not sure of it is really better for pop.
I think I need to completely redesign our home. No more low drawers, new fridge, new couch - ahhhh! If only I knew all this a few years ago.
Thanks again for you reply!

See if you can get the old cheapo folding change table. Sit on a dining chair at the end of it with your feet straddling the X. That way you don't have to bend over. You just lean forward when it is time to pick baby up again, and hold him close to you while you stand up again.

Or change him on the floor, while kneeling with lumbar curve in place. You will end up with thighs of steel, which ever way you do it.

I must be shorter than most because I didnt have to bend over the changing table. but mostly I changed the baby on the sofa, I'd kneel on the floor beside her. not for prolapse but convenience. she hated the change table and it wasnt as centrally located as the sofa.

Yes, I am 5'7", so I seemed to be almost always bending over slightly at the waist when I had babies. I have always used workarounds for low tables. Our kitchen benches are 39 inches high (1000mm) , which is heaven for me.

I am 5'9" and I think being tall means more bending - so more vigilance required! I am changing both kiddies on the ground when I can and that is easier. And am definitely getting better at the bum out, curve in place bend you suggested Louise - it's quite the look!

You will get stronger! It will help preserve your knees if you kneel on a pad of some sort, like a hi density foam camping mattress.
