Should intra- abdominal pressure have such a bad name?

Body:

I've had a very unexpected reaction to an awful chest infection that lasted a few weeks.

I was so worried about intra-abdominal pressure and POP that I was manic about getting into posture, bending forward if I could or even ( when I was in private!) getting on all fours with my bum in the air when I had an uncontrollable fit of coughing - all the emergency measures recommended by Christine.

Result? My cervix, which is never significantly prolapsed but comes down a bit towards the end of the month has generally been much higher than normal - unreachable - and my urethrocele (which just seems to be the 'baggy jumper' fold left after WW has progressively moved my bladder etc forward) is no worse really. Is it anatomically possible to cough your pelvic organs forward into a better position, provided you're coughing in posture?

Perhaps it goes to show that all those dire but vague warnings about bad coughs and heavy lifting etc only really apply to doing these
(sometimes natural and necessary) things in the wrong position.

However, I have tried all the ww advice about reducing coughing as well. This was a nasty enough illness to get me motivated with nose breathing. My feeling is: cough properly when necessary but in a protective position ( it sure beats developing pneumonia) but overall try to control/ limit coughing.

But then I'm no doctor, just experimenting on my own body.

Doubtful

You've got it, Doubtful. Coughing is really just sudden breathing. Is it a wonder that it hasn't done you any harm? Glad you are feeling better. It is amazing what we can accomplish with subtle changes to the way we do things.

Louise

It's probably just that you were extra aware of your posture and spent more time than usual in pop-friendly positions. Thanks for this- gives a woman hope and encouragement!
