To push things back in or not?

Body:

What is the best course of action for POP...1) to push things back in when bulges begin to peek or bulge beyond the vaginal opening?, or 2) to just leave things alone and let things go where they will?

Since discovering my POP, I generally take a look with a mirror after any "business" trips to the bathroom. If I see any bulges, I usually just push them right back in with my finger. But I just read a post where it was suggested to only check things once a week! Could that mean that a bulge would persist for several days or even move further out?

Just not sure what's the best course of action.

Dear cecilly,

I think Louise recommended checking things once a week in order to minimise anxiety. If you feel the prolapse beyond the vagina, then you are going to feel uncomfortable. You won’t need to look to know this. (I can only speak in regards to uterine prolapse.) Pushing it back is good if you can push it back and forward over your pelvic bone. I find it brings me relief to do so. If the prolapse won’t be pushed that far and just comes back down straight away then you know you have pressure there and will need to do other things to relieve it, like exercise and maybe a change of diet. If you have been pushing back and this has been a successful strategy, I can’t see any harm in it. Not pushing it back doesn’t mean it won’t go back naturally via relaxation, WW posture etc, but obviously not as immediately as when pushing back.

Cheers Fab
