Got the book!

Body:

I received Christines book the other day and have been reading it with a passion since then. Christine, you had advised me to take your information to my orthopedist - which I intend to do. But, basically, he is under the impression that I am "taking care of my prolapse" and THEN returning to him. The book was incredibly eye opening and I am so thankful I read it before scheduling my surgery when I return to the uro/gyn next week (I think I may be postponing that appt!). I have decided that I HAVE to try to implement some (or all) of your ideas into my life as I can't address my back pain until I can do some exercises for it. As we speak, I am sitting on a piano bench cross-legged with straight spine typing. My back feels pretty good today - which it hasn't in a few weeks. I tried doing some of the exercises but my two little boys just wanted to climb on me. I understand that it will take "some getting used to" - the posture. I find it difficult to walk "naturally" with my legs slightly bent. Also, I find myself resting on one foot more than the other - I believe this is probably throwing my hips out of whack and I shouldn't do that? Anyway, I was glad you mentioned walking/running to the point that I packed up my 2 boys into the double stroller and walked to and thru the local mall. The posture was a big help as I struggle pushing them in the stroller all the time but felt it was easier today! I will have more questions - I am anxious to change my HORRIBLE diet (luckily I'm not overweight but I eat junk!) but am not sure how to prepare - you mention raw food but also cooking but not too much. Are there recipe books "out there" that you would recommend to incorporate ALL that you recommend? Thanks so much, again, for this natural approach. I hope to be able to see my orthopedist very soon and tell him my back pain is much better or at least I've gotten the prolapse under control so that he can get me on an exercise regime for that.

Hi PJ (can we call you PJ?)

I'm so glad your eyes are open. I'm wondering how much scoliosis we could prevent with the posture. I think spinal surgery is second only to gynecologic surgery in gross error.

Practice balancing your weight evenly between your feet. I shift my weight back and forth, too, but try not to give preference only to one side.

PJ, don't walk with bent knees...that bent-kneed walk in the book is only an exercise to experience being seated down in your center of gravity.

With your post, I've decided to release a little food video and manual that I made in the mid-90's. Because it was very much a homemade production, I'd never entertained offering it here until it was completely revised. No time for revision, though, and it's got a lot of good info., so I'll try to have copies available in a week or so. No junk food!!

;) Christine

Thanks for writing so soon - I didn't expect you back til tomorrow from your conference! I look forward to the food video. I spent some extra $$ buying some organic food from the food store. I will try to price shop to save some $$ with that. I am laughing at myself for trying to walk with my knees bent but I am glad that I don't need to do that! My husband and I were talking about it and I just couldn't imagine having that become "normal" for me - but I was willing! I have tried the posture for sitting and have felt much better! I can tell already that the prolapse is not as pronounced - not sure if it's too early but it does give me hope. My uro/gyn called to reschedule my appt. which is good cause I was planning on cancelling it for now anyway.

I will check out the posture download again but I would imagine that I have been doing it pretty correctly. Even though I was trying to bend my knees while walking, that wasn't happening too well. My back pain (other than a pinched nerve I'm dealing with in my neck and shoulder blade for 3 weeks) seems much more manageable when I'm doing the posture. I can feel the pain when I try walking my usual walk.

Again, look forward to any food helps. I am one that really needs recipes - not good at just "putting things together" and having them taste good. Something you wrote to someone about a "typical older woman's diet" in the food section sounded good - something with sundried tomatoes (my favorite!!!) but I can't eat that everyday.

Well, hope your conference went well. I have to admit, I kept trying to picture you at this conference walking with your knees bent! :-)

That would be a pretty funny walk! The reason I want to provide the food book is because it teaches to work with food in a different way -without recipes.

So glad you're feeling some relief.

Christine

I look forward to the food manual. I definitely need such a thing! I don't want to just hop from one "health food" recipe to another as it seems it's more how the food works together - which I am clueless on! I guess you'll post it when it becomes available? Thanks for writing back! I am thinking I may be swaying my back out in trying to have my butt "stick out" a bit - perhaps I don't need to do it as much? I am having lower back problems today - but I felt AWESOME when I woke up! Maybe it will just take a few days for my body to respond to the new posture but I'm wondering if my butt just naturally is in better position that I am trying to make it. I am also a bit confused on the eyebrow lift. Should I just raise my entire eyebrow? I don't seem to be able to lift just the outer corners.

Yes, I'll let you know when the book/video are available. Don't try to sway your back. When you hold your navel over your pubic bone (and it's not really sticking your stomach out either, rather a proud holding) your back will have just the right amount of curve. Your head/neck/shoulders are very important to get everything balanced just right. The soreness should resolve and if it doesn't then we need to adjust because you don't have the correct tension throughout.

Christine

Hi Christine, I read your book, but now I want to know what others you've written! I am very interested in more knowledge! What do you think of the ergonomical chairs where the seat is slanted, and there is a kneeling area? I bought one at a garage sale, and reupholstered it for me and my husband (back problems for 50years) has taken over it. I am looking for another one for myself.
I have postponed my surgery, if I didn't already tell you. May 9th would have been the day! I am now trying the sea sponges, but right now, I won't comment! Give me another week or so, and I'll let you know! About recipes, I'm also interested, because I am definitely a junk food person!
Nancy

Hi Nancy,

Yes, those seats are great
