Uresta pessary

Body:

Has anyone tried a Uresta pessary, http://www.uresta.com/ ? Is it as wonderful as it is made out to be? It is good to see that Milex is no longer the only manufacturer of pessaries.

We talked about this in one of our early classes - see if you can go back and find the slides. It's hard to fathom how holding the vagina open to that extent wouldn't cause or worsen a rectocele.

This is surely the best representation of the "plug hole" theory of prolapse. That we have a soft-tissue hammock at the bottom of our torso, which holds up the pelvic and abdominal organs. If we tighten our "core" and our "floor" the plug hole will be "strengthened" and our organs will have a better chance of not being sucked down the drain. This is a purely gynecologic/male perspective - which never expands outward from the lithotomy view or surgical field. Complete hogwash and anyone still promoting such anatomical folly should be hung by their toes. Uh-oh...I feel a wave of third grade regression coming on... Have you seen a picture of the guy who invented this thing? Let's start with him! hahaha....

Just laughing about this! My thought was that it looked like the plug for a hot water bottle! If you read on the FAQ's on the website, the very last question was if it would help prolapse and he answered with: No, it is not designed for that. Go figure. Just another way to make money as it is rather expensive, requires a prescription, etc.

Yes, Christine and Grandma Joy, you are both right. ;-)

However, it is good to see that Milex does not have a complete monopoly on pessary design. I think doctors regard anything as a success if it 'cures' the initial symptom, regardless of other negative results from its use.

I still want to hear from anyone who has tried using a Uresta pessary, why it was chosen for them, whether it solved the problem, and now, what other celes followed?
