Some good news- some not so good!

Body:

I posted about two wks ago that I saw my cervix in my vaginal area (and your responses were great). I am now 6 wks pp and had my appt with my ob and she confirmed that the uteris was stage 2, which is better than it was- yea! But then she also confirmed that I have stage 2 cystocele =(
Can anyone tell me... at this point now, can I resume normal lifting and excersize that works for my prolapse? Or Should I still rest while I know that I have prolapse. I read the book of Whole Woman when it came in the mail on Saturday, and feel ready to start helping myselp heal. one question I had once i resume excersize, should I no longer do dumbells for my arms? I also enjoy doing all the free wieght machines at the gym, but I do not want to injure myself more. I feel clueless as to how each way I move now should reflect on how to help my pelvic floor! I need to keep reading up on it!

Thank you!

Also, is it normal to feel a sore lower back when I am first working on the posture? Mine seems a little sore, and i know I am doing it right because I can literall feel my bladder move forward=)

Hi Busymama – I have read comments on here from people who feel it in their lower back when they are first learning the posture. Just take it easy, because you still have lots of PP recovery ahead of you. Don’t try to exaggerate the lumbar curve; if your belly is relaxed and your chest is pulled up, the rest will usually take care of itself. As you get further into this, your body will tell you what movements increase or decrease the stability of your pelvic organs. Try to do everything in posture and avoid activities that place your body at an acute angle. Walking in excellent WW posture, with long strides, keeping your back foot on the ground as long as you can, is one of the best exercises both PP and at any other time. Try to fit some rest in there too! Good luck and keep up the good work.

Dear Busymama,
Take a deep breath. That was good news that your uterus is at stage 2. The uterus and bladder work in tandem. Don't be too alarmed to hear about the cystocele. The WW exercises should be helpful. I would suggest you get the First Aid for Prolapse DVD. It has an excellent dictionary of movements. That way you can really learn things correctly. I agree with Surviving 60. Concentrate on learning WW posture and learn how to firebreath. It takes more effort than you think to incorporate the posture into your daily activities, especially when you are so busy . I suggest you focus on one area at a time. For example, using the posture when seated. The book illustrates seated postures. On the DVD Christine shows how to use the posture in a variety of daily activities including pushing the baby stroller, vacuuming and lifting. I found these very beneficial to view. My suggestion would be to hold off on the weights for awhile. I do use free weights now, many months after starting WW and I do my exercises in a WW seated posture. Many of the machines at the gym put our bodies into stressful positions that may worsen our prolapse. I would hold off on these until such time as you are so familiar with WW posture that you can determine if the machines would be useful or not. I used to treadmill. However, it has aggravated my prolapse. Now I do a walking program. I'm getting similar benefits and no negative impact. It all takes time. I would suggest you concentrate on the prolapse. As you begin to heal you will be able to resume some of your other activities in a more informed way. As Surviving 60 also suggested rest is very important. Try to get some. Good luck and feel better.

These are great tips ans very helpful to me! I will purchase the dvd too as i know it should be useful for me.

Hi all,

Unfortunately I must admit have not done very well at maintaining WW posture nor have I been very consistent with the exercises I'm able to do. This is mainly because I've been going through a very difficult time related to pain with my disability. This has taken a lot of my focus away from WW posture and my prolapse. However, today I see a noticeable change in my prolapse. I do wear a pessary and have for 3 months. This has worked quite well for me until today. Even though my pessary is placed correctly, I am feeling a bulge in my vagina and feel like I'm sitting on a baseball. Those symptoms went away when I got the pessary. I have been extremely cautious with any activities that I'm able to do.

Of course my level of concern is significantly elevated once again. Are there any suggestions for ways to deal with these symptoms? I'm seeing my urogynecologist on Wednesday next week but I am not open to surgery at all. It is most distressing to think that my prolapse is worsening this quickly!

Funnyfoot, let me tell you my story. When I came to this site 2 years ago, I didn’t ask a million questions on the forum, I just did the work. I came back to the forum when I started getting results, with the primary purpose of helping to spread the word to others who might find their way here. Today, I am still seeing improvements that I did not see a few short months ago. I shudder to think that I might have abandoned this work if I had failed to get the message that this was not a quick fix, but a life change. I don’t see how anyone can spend any time here without getting that message.

It does not sound like you are going forward with WW and you will not be the first who made that choice. But if you are looking for a “Plan B”, you won’t find it here. This is the best tool that women have. If you were thinking that a pessary was going to be your answer, then again, you weren’t paying attention.

Sorry if this sounds like a lecture. I know you have issues in addition to prolapse that do complicate things for you. I’m hoping you have come back here for more encouragement to get back on the program. Everyone must do that for herself but we will be here when you need us. - Surviving
