still have the heavy feeling post surgery

Body:

Hi i had a hysterectomy and a bladder repair (only had a slight prolapse but he said he would fix it at the same time) nearly 4 weeks. The first week had an infection which cleared up with 2 lots of anitbiotics and then got thrush. The past week ive had the same sensation i had before the surgery ie. heaviness and feeling like something is pushing down from inside my vagina and anal area, been back for a checkup and doc say all is good, i do have a small collection (blood) but nothing to worry about. Has anyone else had this feeling and does it go away?

Hi tripodmuriel and welcome.
There is not a lot of activity from women who have had surgery here...which is possibly why you have not had a response yet. I, however am one such woman who has had surgery. Not a hysterectomy, only a bladder repair (anterior repair).
Now yours might not have failed. Who knows.
Anterior repairs as I discovered after the op have a pretty high failure rate.
My surgeon like yours thought my repair was holding well...yeah we all look fine lying down. It took me a while to realise all the docs opinions in the world didn't mean a thing. I am the only one that could make a difference. So I got to work on whole woman posture, and doing all I could to help myself.
That is the best advice I can give you at the moment. Christine is uncertain about how much help the posture etc is with hysterectomy, but then I have heard the same comment made on this site about repairs like mine....yet I am proof it has helped. And Christine herself has overcome the ravages of post surgery herself...that is what brought her to all this.
So while hysterectomy has not been our experience give it all you have got. It is not a quick fix, and it is hard work, but more surgery is not the answer.
Hope my thoughts are helpful.

Dear Tripodmuriel,
I think Aussielou has given you some good advice. I would like to add that any type of surgery, and you had both hysterectomy and bladder repair are major, major events and healing will take time. I would suggest you explore the home page of this website. On the left hand side you will see a number of categories. I encourage you to explore some of them . One is hysterectomy. Christine has some excellent information about prolapse and some good videos you can watch. Hopefully, you will gain some useful information to help you dialogue with your doctor. There is also a piece you might wish to look at that was in Consumers Reports,May 2012. It is about surgeries and does include a case where the woman sounds like she had the same surgeries as you. It also includes comments by a well-known urologist, I believe from Mayo clinic Chicago. You can find it on-line.
While you are healing, you could also look at the WW posture steps, found on the home page under "frequently asked questions." I agree with Aussie that we are not sure how much help WW techniques will be for you. We have gotten lots of positive feedback like Aussie's , and we do not believe WW work will be harmful;it may help.
Good luck to you and speedy recovery,
WholeWomanPA

HI Tripodmuriel - good advice here. It is still somewhat early for you to really know where you stand with the healing. So be patient and good to yourself. Rounds of antibiotics can be hard on the system too. Eat healthy, stay regular.

If you can adopt Whole Woman posture, it might help your repairs last longer.....but no promises there, because the dynamics are so radically altered by surgeries. Take it slow and see how it goes. And do try to avoid further repairs, because these have an even higher failure rate, since there is less tissue to work with each time. Best of luck to you! - Surviving
