rectocele...having problems

Body:

So I first noticed my cystocele but now I think I have a rectocele also. I had my daughter in april this year and i couldn't stop being constipated since having her. I've had on and off problems with bm's. I just can't seem to get them out.
Recently I get urges to go and they die. ANd i sit and sit on the toilet in all sorts of positions but can't seem to get them to empy. I can feel it there but I can't get it to engage and come out, and if I do I can't get all of it. I'm new to the site so I haven't figured my way around so anywhere you could point me would be wonderful.

I would like to add I felt devastated when I found out. I cried and felt as though I failed as a woman. Since finding this site I find hope. I have embraced the posture and I feel as though it makes me beautiful, instead of awkward and insecure like I used to be always worrying about that 'flat belly' I feel as though I'm not only surviving but thriving :)

Hi Samantha - having both 'celes is very common. In fact, it's probably the norm. Christine calls this "nature's pessary" because these bulges help keep the cervix further away from the pelvic outlet. The other good news is that there isn't any special "treatment" for each of these conditions. Posture (and not straining) are the answer, no matter what kind of prolapse you have. Keep up the good work! - Surviving

(PS, look around the forums for diet advice to keep things moving. Some rely on magnesium citrate for help. Probiotics may be called for, especially if you've had a round of antibiotics lately.)

Hi Samantha,
Have you tried Activia Yoghurt? If you are not allergic to lactose, it could be worth a try. I had similar problems and now I eat an Activia Yoghurt every morning after breakfast, and hit helps. I softens the stool and I do not have any trouble to empty my bowel and do not have to strain anymore. Maybe you give it a try? For me it is a pretty easy and cheap way and it helps!
And I know this feeling very well- to feel failure as a woman. But it will get better over time, there are so many women having this conditions, you are not alone! And your daughter was just born 6 months ago, your body still needs time to heal and it can improve over time.
All the best!
Loulou

Hi Samantha, sorry, I forgot something: it also helps when you sit on the toilet and it won`t come out, to open your mouth a little, put the tongue to your palate and buzz or hum a little song. My midwife told me that. Remember to keep the mouth open, the muscles down there relax when you open the jaws. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it really works! Loulou
