In need!

Body:

Hello. This is my first time posting although I have been reading the forum for some months. I was first diagnosed in 2002, 8 months after the birth of my third child.
The Dr. said it was a prolapsed uterus. I really didn’t have any major discomfort until 2008 when everything just ‘fell down’, by this time I was living in Canada and went to a OBGYN, a man, who said, hysterectomy, I asked what he would do if he were me and he said, “go away, forget about it and get on with you life, it may get worse, it may stay the same”, that’s what I did, I researched, found Whole Woman, sent away for the book and First Aid DVD, and carried on with my life. In 2011 my thirteen year old son died from respiratory complications, he was born with a Neuronal Migration Disorder, was blind, did not walk, talk, sit up, roll over, was tube fed, etc, was not expected to live past 4 years old. My symptoms just seemed to get worse, and began to dictate my every move, my every mood, so I asked for a second opinion and went to see a woman OBGYN last year, she said I have a prolapsed bladder, stage 2/3, and offered a hysterectomy when I asked her the success rate she told me that it wasn’t a cure and that often within a year of surgery there were prolapses of a different kind to deal with, I told her I wasn’t the surgery type and tried a pessary, that lasted about 48 hours, fell down and was very uncomfortable, so I am back to were I started: adamant it is not about surgery but feeling like nothing I do works. I do yoga, 3 spin classes a week, weights, only upper body, right now I cross country ski 3/4 times a week, since loosing my son, exercise has sort of saved my life, but am I doing too much? I try to be in the WW posture but forget, I try nauli and fire-breath, but maybe not enough. I just need some direction, reassurance and support! I want 2013 to be the year I conquer my prolapse and not let it be in control of me! I would be grateful for any comments! Thank you very much and may I wish you all a very healthy and happy 2013.

Thank you for being able to post on the forum. I'm sorry about your son. His life was full of struggle. We know children are born with problems,(his so severe). We never expect these things to happen to us and it is almost unbearable when they do. It must have been very painful for you to watch your son's condition impact his life so.
You say that you have the 1st aid DVD. If you have watched it carefully, you know that Christine recommends lots of quality rest for women with prolapse. From your post it seems that you do quite a bit of strenuous exercise each week. You may indeed be doing too much. Also, some of the exercises may be having a negative impact on your prolapse. Most exercise programs were created by men based on male anatomy. Those of us who have embraced WW have had to really concentrate and practice to learn the correct posture. Then we have had to examine all our daily activities and exercises and make sure we are not compromising the WW posture. I would suggest that you take a break from most of your exercise programs and focus on the WW techniques. Learn the exercise program on that DVD, practice WW posture when sitting, standing, walking et. The DVD offers helpful tips in this area. Try and do the firebreathing and nauli (review to make sure you are doing it correctly) several times a day. I would suggest that if you need more exercise than that DVD look at the 1st wheel and 3rd wheel DVDs. They are yoga done from the WW prospective.
I don't believe you can conquer prolapse. I do know you can stabilize the condition and learn to manage it so that it is not "all consuming".
I would also suggest some meditation, practice your breathing (also mentioned on the DVD) , maybe a mantra.
Good luck to you and stay in touch.
WWPA

Hi Angel Child. I am so very sorry about your son. How wonderful that you got to have a few more years with him, but what difficult years those must have been. My heart goes out to you.

It does sound like you have put Whole Woman by the wayside. I agree with WWPA - you need to ease up on some of that stuff, and devote yourself completely to getting back into the posture. Once the posture is second nature, you'll be in a better position to pick and choose between activities that are helpful and those that are not. Until then, stick with Christine's workouts and with good solid WW posture walking, as much as you can manage. It will be good for body and mind.

I had SO much improvement in my 2nd year of this work, as compared with my 1st. The number one reason for this was the fact that I quit dabbling, and started working 1000% on my prolapse. This has to become the new you.....that's how it works best. It is not just a sometime thing; it's how your body was meant to stand and move. Your prolapse, hips and spine, all will thank you! - Surviving

Thank you very much WWPA. I appreciate your comments greatly. I do need to devote myself to being in the posture and doing exercise that is positive and not possibly negative for prolapse. After Isaac died I had so much time suddenly (my other boys were 15 and 9 at the time and didn't need me in the same way Isaac did) that the exercise was definitely good for my head and filled a little of my empty days! Isaac died 9 February 2011, it is still unbelievable to me. I will watch the DVD again, I already started re-reading the book! I just want to feel comfortable in my skin! Thank you again.

Thank you Surviving, I am grateful for your comments and both you and WWPA have inspired me to really devote 100% of my efforts to getting back on the program! New day, new year, new hope! Thank you!

My heart goes out to you. I want to send you much love and welcome you to this forum. I have been here seven months or so and have much improvement. You have been through so much pain and so much stress that it is no wonder that symptoms have become greater. I agree with WWPA and with Surviving. Take some time now to reorient yourself and to gain your footing. Your mission in this new year should be to take on this beautiful posture. You want to own it and make it yours. When you know it well, then all the little moves you make in the course of your day, will be understood in terms of your condition. I never thought that day would come, but I am getting there.....enjoying the posture, bending from the hips, relaxing the belly, rethinking all the little things....it brings us closer to ourselves. I am hoping that for you now. Down the road you will able to figure out what you should and shouldn't do, but right now for you to go on a mission to adopt and integrate this posture into your every move, will be your way. You can begin with this posture every moment when up and about, rest a lot, start a walking in posture daily routine. If you enjoy socializing when exercising, maybe you can include friends on your walk. Dedicate yourself to the DVD, even just with the beginning workout at least a few days a week. Those moves when done mindfully will strengthen you and help you to move forward. Keep posting any questions. Love and Best Wishes to you!

Thank you Ms Nightingale, I am grateful for your advice and encouragement, it really makes me optimistic and excited to begin the process! I am putting the DVD on now! Thank you.

I am new here but just want to offer hugs. At least your doctor was honest with you. The WW posture and the first aid for prolapse dvd has really helped me. I had burning and pressure big time. I was already for surgery until my doctor was honest and I was lucky to find this web-sit. Also I was lucky to have enough money to buy the book an dvd's. I thought I was fit until I started doing the first aid for prolapse. Never been grace but I am getting there. Good luck you to my dear. So sorry for your loss.

Wouldn't it be great if you could buy the book and DVD's through your health insurance? I mean, why not? I am sure there would be a saving for the insurance company if women didn't have these surgeries. It is a no brainer, really!

Hi Angel Child,
Thank you for sharing your story. As with all the women here, my heart goes out to you.
Just to add to all the helfpul messages above. I once heard Christine say there were 3 cornerstones to the WW work; WW posture, diet and the recommended WW to go to the toilet. These 3 topics are all well covered in the 'Saving the Whole Woman' book. The WW work is a holistic approach with the posture at the heart of the work.
I agree with the others. It would be good to make the WW work the centre of your exercise regime. I personally find doing a WW practce (less than 30' p/day) and being in WW posture pretty much all the time, (after a while it becomes 2nd nature and no bother at all), supports my pelvic organs and I do not have prolapse symptoms. However if I don't, my prolapse symptoms begin to return within a few days. But we all find what works best for us with practice.
Love and best wishes, xwholewomanuk

You might want to try prolapse sea sponges by Jade and Pearl co. I am having some relief that way but am still getting used to them. I did not like the pessary at all. Best of luck to you.

Thank you all for your kind comments, it is certainly wonderful to have the support (I came to Canada from Jamaica - my husband is Jamaican and my boys were born there - but I was born and raised in England) so I have no family here and no close friends, your support is great! I have sent away for the Yoga -The Third Wheel DVD, I am trying to adopt the WW posture at all times, sitting, standing, walking, I know it is early days and I must be patient and kind to myself! Thanks again.
