posture necklace

Body:

I saw this online. They are called posture beads to make you aware of your posture during the day, especially while bending over. Thought it might be of interest to someone. I have not bought one myself just thought it was a neat little necklace.

Cool post, that is a good idea, and I think we all need extra help reminding ourselves to have better posture throughout the day!

I really like this idea. I have been thinking about counter-weighted necklaces myself, but never thought as far as a really good-looking, posture monitoring device. You have to understand and value the importance of good posture and mindful movement to see the value in the product.

I notice that Maria Latouf has taken out a patent on this product. She is serious. I hope the patent protects her intellectual property and will provide her with a living. She was turned down by The Dragon Den team, none of whom would back it financially. I think she might be better off without them.

As the Dragons say, investment is about making maximum return for the investor. Latouf differs, in that she wants a fair deal for her suppliers too, which is laudable. Price looks fair too.

Something about this was making me uncomfortable, and then it came to me in a flash. This woman is one of the fortunates…she was never “trained” to do the whole suck-and-tuck thing with her body. She talks about lumbar curvature as if it’s something that everyone has. She doesn’t explain how to get it back if you’ve lost it (thank you Christine Kent for coming up with THAT).

Other than that, I find this pretty consistent with WW, though I can’t imagine if I was still trying to perfect WW posture and keep track of these beads at the same time! I’m not sure if “pulling in your abdominal muscles when you bend” is a good idea, though. When I try to do that, my curvature seems to flatten right out. - Surviving

I agree Surviving that pulling in your abs is wrong, as WW we have been enlightened. I know for myself, I still am everyday telling myself to sit better, bend proper, don't lean, relax the belly etc. It is not habit yet to stay in correct posture, but it is coming. In the summer, when the babe is born, and I am really busy outside this may really prove useful for me, as a reminder to keep in posture while I am busy on the farm. I have not bought one yet, as I am so far doing pretty well I think. For the girls struggling, or who stop using WW posture when they are symptom free this might be nice, if they apply this only to the WW methods, and leave everything else at the door. She doesn't know the reason behind why we are doing this, nor why every woman should, or she would be in line with Christine. But it it is pretty necklace, and helps remind us as well! Best of both worlds!

.......when you have prolapse to tell you when you're doing it wrong? Many times throughout my day, I will start to bend from the waist. My 'celes will cry out to me, and the minute I correct my bending posture, I can feel those organs moving forward over the pubic bones where they belong. It's one of those little observations that you start to pick up on, only after lots of time and practice. It is one of those little things that proves to me every day, the truth of WW teachings. So newbies, don't dabble - commit!! - Surviving

But most of the time my cystocele is up and does not bother me, no matter if I do bend wrong, so I really have to remind myself all the time, as my prolapse doesn't remind me most days now. So if you have symptoms every day it would be a constant reminder, but for the others who may have good weeks, and bad weeks, this necklace might help to keep constant during the good weeks, or like some of the PP moms who totally reverse it. It would be much easier to fall back into an old habit with no symptom to remind you. I agree, you have to commit to WW. I have committed and believe the reason I feel nothing right now is due to posture, and the toilet trick has helped a lot, the rocking forward on the balls of the feet, as if I am going to feel it, it is usually then, or at the end of a busy day. I do not hold this necklace in the place of WW. 100% if you want control of POP, you have to learn the basics, no other program teaches the reasons behind the work so clearly as WW, or proven itself so well.

Why don't you get some and report back, Agnus? Did you watch the video? She is so adorable I just want to hug her!

This made me laugh out loud. Then I thought, "Well you only have POP if you have POP. Wouldn't it be great for young women to put good posture ahead of the latest fancy juice bar for maintaining their health?" Then they might not ever get POP.

I think I will go post on her blog about pulling her tummy in.

I think I just might order these beads. They look nice and I am hoping they will improve my posture while driving. I don't do much, but seem to have worse posture while I drive.

Great idea, Agnus. I really have this bead thing stuck in my head now! I was already ultra-conscious of my bending posture, and now, I keep imagining these beads falling from the back of me to the front. It's almost like I'm wearing them and benefitting from them, without actually having to buy them, or explain to anyone why I have beads down my back. I know this must sound incredibly weird........ - Surviving

Agnus, driving in a modern car is the pits. Modern seats have no room for a woman's butt; a steering wheel that is too far away from your shoulders so you have to keep your shoulders forward. They have a c-shaped back, so your neck cranes forward, and the seat slopes backwards. Disaster.

A foam wedge under your butt, and a hot water bottle behind your waist, push your butt right back, move the seat forward, drop the steering column if you can, and you just might be able to have your upper arms hanging vertically with relaxed shoulders and a broad flat back, and a lumbar curve, making your neck taller. The only problem I have found is that I can't wear a hat while driving because it scrapes on the ceiling!

You just gotta use your brains to get arouond all the impediments in your operating environment.
