Libraries

Body:

I'm wondering if making a request of our local libraries to purchase "Saving the Whole Woman" et al would be a good idea. In my area I have access to three main libraries (three counties), each with several branches. Those numbers could multiply if each of us made the effort. I don't think it would be a discouragement to more sales through the website, but it might possibly be an encouragement. The books are expensive and many of us have hesitated to buy sight-unseen; but once you see the content with exercises, you recognize it as a valuable reference book you want to own. I'm not disappointed with what I got from you for my money. Libraries also, of course, lend DVDs as well; but if they only purchased the book, it might become an advertisement to sell more DVDs. Obviously it would have the advantage of making the information more available to those who cannot afford to purchase it. It might serve the dual purpose of disseminating information and gaining financial support.

Bebe, I think it would be great if we could get these materials out into libraries. Have you asked at any of the branches near you?" Do they entertain requests for things to purchase? Why don't you try this and let us know how the experience goes. Donating a book might be the only sure-fire way to get it on the shelves...... - Surviving

I didn't ask yet - wanted to get some feedback here first on whether it might be a good idea. My library does take requests or at least suggestions....limited funds, you know. I'll talk to the closest one first - where I know the librarian. She probably knows other local librarians and might be able to give me suggestions on how to proceed with them. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Bebe,
I have been able to get the Whole Woman book from our local Library twice but it has to come from another Library as they say they can't afford to put it in all the Libraries so it does mean waiting a few weeks to get it and then it is only on loan for 2 weeks at a time where as most books are on loan for 3 weeks at a time. They will sometimes let you renew it for another 2 weeks if they don't have any one waiting for it. This is Ontario Canada.

I was able to put "Saving the Whole Woman" on the purchase request lists of two out of three area libraries. I emailed a request to the third. Each of these library systems has at least three branches. I was told they use these lists to help decide what to buy, so there's no guarantee. I also expect the response to be slow, but I'll try to remember to follow up every several weeks to check on results.

I was surprised at how easy this was. I visited the branch of the county library I usually go to and spoke to a librarian. The library in the neighboring county has a purchase request form online. So how many of you ladies might spend a few extra minutes online and make a request of the library you patronize?

This was in two counties in eastern Kentucky and one in southern Ohio.

I think I might wait until Hips comes out, and see if I can sell my libe on the idea of getting the pair of them! Furthermore I believe there will be an e-book version of Hips. I know libraries are lending those out now. - Surviving

I belong to a spiritual group whose founder has written over 35 books and in order to get them in libraries volunteers took them to libraries and donated them, they were never refused, and the other thing that was done was a bookmark was inserted with contact info. If WW could establish a fund for people to donate to and WW would be willing to give these books at cost and we had volunteers to take them to libraries, we could soon flood the market and get WW info out to the masses. Once people read WW they want their own copy which would increase sales for WW. Having been in business for many years I soon learned that you have to spend money to make money. The fund could also cover the cost to ship them to the volunteers. I am willing to be a donater & a volunteer. What say you Christine & Lanny and all you soul sisters who want to spread the word?

Awesome!!
I have been encouraging our health food store to carry the book.I believe she is looking into stocking it!
I will try the library ,mentioned it before, though I don't think they brought it in .

Anyone who is in a position to fund extra copies of Christine's book, can simply purchase them and donate them to libraries and other facilities (or give to any individuals they know who might benefit). This has come up in the past and I believe Lanny has described some of the pitfalls of WW getting directly involved in establishing a fund for donations, and I think they have their hands full enough these days. If "Person A" were to come on the Forums expressing a desire but lack of funds to purchase WW products, then if "Person B" spotted that post and was interested in helping "Person A", then "Person B" could contact Louise (via her email on the Practitioners page) and request to be put in touch with "Person A". It would then be up to "Person A" to give permission for her email address to be given to "Person B". I am pretty sure this is how it all works, in order to best protect the anonymity of Forum members. - Surviving

Maybe each of us who can afford it, should simply buy one extra book. I will wait for Hips to come out to get my "extra" Savings books and then we donate to our local libraries. I love this idea. In a way, it covers two things....support of Whole Woman without their needing to get involved in the fund aspect AND support of our fellow women. Love this idea Free2be (even though it has been altered a bit) :-)

Great idea MsN - keep in mind ladies that there are quantity discounts. The Hips discount is especially generous, you can get 10% off just by buying two! At least that's what the ordering page says right now, I'm sure these things can be subject to change. - Surviving

I think there are some great ideas here. If we all request the WW resources from our libraries, and if it's affordable to donate books judiciously - then that's a great way of spreading the word and increasing sales which in turn supports the on-going WW work.

My experience at my local library in the UK was that they didn't have the funds to buy the book. So it may not work every time - but there's no harm in trying. I'll try the library again at some point. Things change - so it's worth a go.

Great ideas! wholewomanukx
