Loose stools before period

Body:

I have pinpointed this down to the time right after ovulation to right before my period starts. I get constant loose stools and then it all goes back to perfect bowel movements when the period comes. I went to the the doctor and she told me that I am sensitive to the hormones. She said birth control pills would help. I am pretty much an all natural person, but have been dealing with the loose stools for so long I figured I would give it a try. Well, nonstop loose stools, worse than usual. What can I do here?

Unless you need the birth control pills for umm, birth control, why not ditch them? Then, since you know your normal bowel pattern so well, just add bulk to your diet during that time -- brown rice, bananas, dense whole grain bread, popcorn, fiberous veggies, and even cheese.

Dear Mom30, I have had IBS for many years. I have been to every doctor you can think of. The gastroenterologist told me that many women do have loose stools around "that time of the month" because of hormone changes. Birth control pills, unfortunately, don't do anything for that. I was on the pill for many years and it never made a difference in stool consistency. If you don't need the pill for other reasons, as bad_mirror suggests, I wouldn't use it. Hope this helps..........
