Lips more sensitive to irritation after menopause??

Hi Wise Women

As you are my benchmark group on the Net, I am inviting you to either Comment on this Forum, or else visit the link below to a Facebook Friend of mine, who is a sexologist, and leave a comment with your opinion about stubble irritation during kissing, during your reproductive years vs post menopause. https://www.facebook.com/effies.bonnett/posts/387313101370876?comment_id... .

Effie started the conversation about whether we are in a Kissing Recession because of stubble and beards, and why it is happening. There is a short, documentary video, featuring young women only. :-( I have introduced the question of postmenopause lip sensitivity in a Comment about seven comments down. If you are not on Facebook you might or might not be able to Comment on the Facebook page, but feel free to comment below, and I will gather the de-identified analysis of the replies here, to Effie's Bonnett.

My knowledge of menopausal changes in vulva and vagina, along with my knowledge of lips and vulva as nerve rich, erogenous tissue of a similar type, leads me to think that a woman's lips may become more sensitive to irritation after menopause (as well as thinner), just like the vulva and vagina. A quick google reveals lots of hits mentioning mouth and lip changes (burning, tingling, sensitivity, taste changes etc) as menopause transition symptoms. Some sites even say that it may develop during perimenopause, continue through menopause and disappear several years later. Could this be related to vulva and vaginal thinning? The simple solutions offered on these sites are basically phytoestrogenic foods and non-inflammatory foods and plenty of anti-oxidant foods. No surprises there. Looks like we are onto something.
