Natural to gain weight at menopause

Body:

For the young at heart amongst us, this item about weight increase during menopause is just breaking news down here, (you all know that little old ‘trickle-down effect’ just takes it time), although it might be old news in north America. They mention that HRT might make a difference to the weight gain, although there are studies that have revealed that HRT made no difference so we will let them fight it out between themselves. But the reassurance factor that ‘it’s not all our own fault’ will only be around for a little while, as they will start the old ‘you should eat less and do more exercise’ gambit pretty quickly. It is possible to lose weight post-menopause so don’t be too fussed; just drop the sugar and the rest will follow. Yep, still on message. This article is from the mouth of the beast who did the study at concordia uni.

it's worthwhile if you have the time to read the cited article too if you want the details of proteins and enzymes and the transportation of fatty acids etc.

Great article, Fab. Yes, I have been hearing about this the last few years, but didn't know it was connected to estrogen, although I have also read that peri menopausal women also have a hard time losing weight.
Yes, sugar, I have been working on that drug, as well. It has been difficult when sugar is in so many food items on the shelf. I guess that's why I have been steering away from the processed foods. The hard one lately has been yogurt, because I love the little bit of sweetness the fruit on the bottom adds! Lol!

Thanks, Fab. That was great!! My gynecologist just told me that fat feeds estrogen -- that's why fibroids grow too!!

I'm afraid that it's more than our metabolism slowing down that causes us to gain wait in perimenopause and later -- we seem to develop cravings that feed our body's fat and increase the estrogen.

Cutting out the sugar has really made a difference for me -- and I'm finding that my cravings are satisfied with the natural sugars that are in veggies & fruits.

I'm pretty sure I have more cravings for sweetness than I used to have before menopause. I for one believe that this could be a much bigger factor in post-meno weight gain than people realize. - Surviving
